Six Nations 2024 Championship: What are the chances for England to win?

| BY News Team

The Six Nations is back in action on the first weekend of February as England battle it out for the trophy, with pivotal matchups, but how will the Red Rose fair with such a youthful squad?

Ahead of the 2024 Six Nations, we give you the lowdown on all you need to know about the upcoming competition for England, fixture by fixture, including odds and betting tips.

Italy v England – Saturday 3rd February 14:15 GMT, Rome

England kick off their campaign against Italy in Rome. Last time this fixture took place it resulted in a 31-14 victory for England in last year’s Six Nations. England have not won the Six Nations since 2020, but they have never lost to Italy. This being said, Steve Borthwick will be very pleased to be starting with this fixture, so the young squad can begin with a decisive win and gain crucial confidence. England to win (-17) Handicap is 10/11.

England v Wales – Saturday 10th February 16:45 GMT, London

England will then face Wales in London, and this most definitely will be a more challenging fixture for them. Back in 2021 Wales clinched their Triple Crown title with a 40-24 win over England in Cardiff in a tight game filled with controversial moments. This game is expected to throw-up some more key moments which will have rugby fans on the edge of their seats. We expect this to be a high scoring affair.

With former England Captain Owen Farrell on the sideline, we could see Marcus Smith playing in the 10 or full-back position. Marcus Smith is 66/1 to finish the tournament as the tournament’s top try scorer. We’ve seen him impress before when given game time, and with notable omissions form the squad he could be given a real chance to shine.

Scotland v England – Saturday 24th February 16:45 GMT, Edinburgh

England will have one thing on thing on their mind here, revenge. Last time out was Steve Borthwick’s first game as England head coach and Scotland certainly ruined any party that he and his side had in mind.

Duhan van der Merwe was the star of the show on that day and England will certainly want to stop a repeat of proceedings to reclaim the Calcutta Cup.

England v Ireland – Saturday 9th March 16:45 GMT, London

This game will provide a contest between two sides in majorly different situations. Ireland are one of the form teams in the world and will be as fired-up as ever to bag a major tournament win following their premature exit from last year’s World Cup.

England have not beaten Ireland in the last four times they have faced Ireland in the Six Nations so expect this to be a very difficult evening at Twickenham. Should England have beaten home nations Wales and Scotland up to this point, victory over Ireland will secure the Triple Crown, something Steve Borthwick’s side are 7/2 to achieve.

France v England – Saturday 16th March 21:00 GMT, Lyon

Finally, probably the most difficult game of the lot for England. Last Six Nations France produced a ruthless display to annihilate England 10-53 in England’s heaviest home defeat.

This will be just as difficult for England as they seek to close out their Six Nations campaign on a high. France’s team also have six new debutants within their squad, so you can never tell how a young team are going to perform on the biggest of stages. If England manage to come into this game unbeaten, then they are likely to be in a position to win the Six Nations, something they are currently 11/2 to do.
