Snooker World Championship Preview 2025

The 2025 UK Championship begins on 29th November, with Judd Trump opening as the snooker betting favourite to defend his title ahead of Zhao Xintong, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Kyren Wilson.

O’Sullivan, the most successful player in UK Championship history, has only played two tournaments since August. The Rocket to Gary Wilson in the last eight in Xi’an and fell to Jack Lisowski in the round of 32 at the International Championship.

UK Championship Odds:

Punters can bet on the 2025 UK Championship at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:

  • Judd Trump – 4/1
  • Zhao Xintong – 5/1
  • Ronnie O’Sullivan – 11/2
  • Kyren Wilson – 9/1
  • Mark Selby – 9/1
  • Neil Robertson – 9/1
  • Shaun Murphy – 10/1
  • Mark Allen – 16/1
  • John Higgins – 16/1
  • Mark Williams – 16/1
  • Wu Yize – 16/1

Betting Favourites

It’s no surprise Trump, the world number one, is the betting favourite. Zhao, who reached the final at the International Championship before losing to Wu Yize, has had success at this tournament in the past, and defeated Mark Allen and Wilson in the Champion of Champions earlier this month.

O’Sullivan, one of the greatest snooker players of all-time, is going to be among the favourites for events of this calibre as long as he keeps playing. His recent track record isn’t particularly impressive, and he’s not had much time at the table over the last couple of months, but when has that bothered him in the past? It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him cruise to the final in York.

Fresh off a 10-5 win over Trump in the final of the Champion of Champions, Mark Selby is aiming to win his third UK Championship. The Jester from Leicester defeated Neil Robertson, Mark Williams, and Stephen Maguire en route to the Champion of Champions final.

Despite retaining the second spot in the snooker world rankings, we’d steer clear of Wilson at his current price. He’s been in a real rut since winning the Shanghai Masters in August – it would take a massive turnaround for him to go all the way at the UK Championship with five rounds to play.

It’s a similar story for Neil Robertson. He’s been far from his best since winning in Saudi Arabia in August and only made one 50+ break in his loss to Selby in the Champion of Champions. The Australian has lost to Zak Surety, He Guoqiang, and Jackson Page since the start of September.

Where To Watch

Live coverage of the UK Championship can be found on BBC Two and Eurosport / Discovery+ from the first round through to the final.
