BBC SPOTY Odds: Amy Hunt now second in betting

| BY News Team

Amy Hunt is now second in the betting for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, according to William Hill.

The leading bookmaker slashed her odds for the award after Hunt won gold in the women’s 200m, adding to her 100m success earlier in the week. Hunt won the 100m in 11.00 seconds, her first senior international title, before taking the 200m crown to complete the sprint double at the European Championships in Birmingham.

Hunt was only added to the market at the start of the week, opening at 25/1, but her odds have tumbled following her back-to-back victories.

Fellow Team GB athlete Josh Kerr remains the 2/1 favourite after breaking the one-mile world record last month. Kerr clocked 3:42.66 at the London Athletics Meet on 18 July, taking 0.47 seconds off Hicham El Guerrouj’s long-standing record.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year Odds:

– Josh Kerr – 2/1
– Amy Hunt – 7/2
– Harry Kane – 6/1
Jude Bellingham – 7/1
– Luke Littler – 8/1
– Matt Weston – 8/1
– BAR – 16/1

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Amy Hunt has arguably been the biggest British story of the European Athletics Championships so far and she’s now in serious contention for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.

“Hunt’s 100 and 200-metre gold medal double has shot her up the betting, with her opening price of 25/1 now long gone as she’s our 7/2 second-favourite.

“Only Josh Kerr stands ahead of her in the betting at 2/1 after his incredible record-breaking one-mile effort last month.”
