Christmas Number One Odds: Wham! given 88% chance of festive hat-trick
Wham! are heavily odds-on with William Hill to land a third straight UK Christmas Number One in 2025, with Last Christmas once again setting the pace in the festive charts. The 80s duo are rated a strong favourite to be top of the pile on 25th December as punters back them to complete a rare seasonal hat-trick.
Wham!’s classic hit Last Christmas has finished Christmas Day at Number One for the last two years running. This time around, the song has been backed into 1/7 for the 2025 Christmas chart race, which implies an 88% chance that it will be number one again on the big day.
The track is already climbing the UK charts in the build-up to the festive period and currently sits in third place. With streaming and radio play increasing as Christmas approaches, traders see very little between Wham! and another year at the top.
There is a clear gap to the rest of the market. Kylie Minogue is the second favourite at 6/1, with her track Xmas in contention despite being some way down the current chart. Mariah Carey, whose All I Want for Christmas Is You is a regular December favourite, follows at 16/1.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “There’s no doubt Last Christmas is a festive classic and as we approach the big day, Wham! continue to move up the UK charts, currently occupying third spot.
“With a real lack of standout challengers for the Christmas Number 1 spot this year, we think there’s a major chance at 1/7 that Wham! could complete the festive hat-trick and have their third Christmas Number 1 in a row.
“Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You is currently just a place behind at fourth in the charts but the singer is a much bigger price at 16/1 to be top on Christmas Day, while Kylie Minogue is 6/1 but her song Xmas is currently some way down the charts in 24th place.”
With two weeks to go until the big day, listeners will be taking to the radio waves by force, and there’s a strong chance Wham! take the top spot yet again for the Christmas number one.
While there’s still a chance that Kyle Monogue and Mariah Carey pull off a shock result and beat Wham! to it, many can’t see past Last Christmas as the top song this festive season.
Taylor Swift has had an eventful year, and her Life of a Showgirl album has certainly resonated with millions across the globe – but it seems she’ll be falling short in terms of a Christmas Number 1 this year!
