It’s also odds-on at 4/9 that the coldest UK temperature of 2026 will be recorded in January, while it’s 5/2 that last year’s January low of -18.9c is beaten.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “The new year has begun with an icy blast of cold weather and with snow already in the north of the UK, we price it at 1/5, the equivalent of an 83% chance, that London gets a dusting before January is out.
“Temperatures in much of the UK are struggling to get far above zero at the moment and we make it 4/9 that this month sees the UK’s lowest temperature of 2026 recorded, while it’s 5/2 that last year’s January low of -18.9c is broken.”
