The new Strictly Come Dancing series is now in full swing, with last week seeing the first elimination as former MP Jacqui Smith was voted off.
The current crop of celebrity contestants will take to the dancefloor once again to strut their stuff this weekend and its Movie Week, so expect to see them dancing to their favourite songs from the big screen.
We take a look at the latest odds ahead of Saturday night.
Having led the betting from the off, EastEnders star Maisie Smith is now having to share her early favourite title with singer HRVY, with the duo both 2/1 to claim the Glitterball Trophy this year. And that’s of little surprise given they have been the star performers so far, both sitting jointly atop the leaderboard on 49 points.
Last week saw HRVY dance the Viennese Waltz to the sound of ‘Stuck With U’ by Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber alongside partner Janette Manrara to rack up a score of 24 – taking joint second place on the night – while he will next be turning his hand on Saturday to the Cha Cha to ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ by Elton John and Kiki Dee.
As for Maisie, having secured a leading score of 25 points last week as she performed the Tango to ‘Midnight Sky’ by Miley Cyrus alongside partner Gorka Márquez, she will be hoping for a repeat performance when she performs the American Smooth to ‘Into The Unknown’ by Idina Menzel. With Maisie and HRVY both currently neck and neck, it’s set to be quite the showdown on Saturday night.
Having started the series as one of the outsiders for the Glitterball Trophy, after a few episodes in, comedian Bill Bailey is now well and truly in the running, rising up the betting this week to 5/1. Bill is proving to be quite the crowd-pleaser, having shown some great improvement under the guidance of his partner Oti Mabuse. Last week’s Quickstep to ‘Talk To The Animals’ by Bobby Darin saw him receive an impressive score of 24 to sit fourth on the overall leaderboard, and on Saturday the comedian will be performing the Paso Doble to ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ by Ennio Morricone from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Another contestant that has slowly been rising up the ranks since the beginning of the series is Men Behaving Badly star Caroline Quentin, who sits next in the betting at 9/1. Caroline is joint third in the overall leaderboard on 42 points following a couple of very solid displays, including last week’s Paso Doble to ‘El Gato Montes’ by Ramon Cortez alongside her partner Johannes Radebe, which secured her 21 points. In terms of Saturday’s performance, Caroline will be dancing the Couples’ Choice to ‘Everything’s Coming Up Roses’ by Ethel Merman from Gypsy.
Best of the rest
Next in the betting sits radio DJ Clara Amfo alongside The Wanted singer Max George, who are both priced at 14/1, with double Olympic gold medallist boxer Nicola Adams next best at 16/1. Elsewhere, former NFL star Jason Bell, Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh are priced at 40/1, with sports presenter JJ Chalmers rounding off the betting at 66/1.
