The shortlist of the UK’s best 10 trees in the running for the Tree of the Year award has been announced, and leading bookmaker William Hill make the Lonely Tree the 4/1 favourite.

The betting is competitive however, with The Beatles’ Cedar Tree marginally behind at 9/2, just shading second favouritism from the Lollipop Tree at 11/2.

UK Tree of the Year Betting Odds For 2025:

Punters can bet on the UK tree of the year at William Hill and the complete shortlist of 10 trees can be seen below, along with the current state of the market:

  • Lonely Tree – 4/1
  • The Beatles’ Cedar Tree – 9/2
  • Lollipop Tree – 11/2
  • King of Limbs – 7/1
  • The Borrowdale Yews – 8/1
  • Bradgate Park’s Oldest Oak – 8/1
  • Wilfred Owen Sycamore – 9/1
  • Argyle Street Ash – 9/1
  • Knole Park Oak – 10/1
  • Tree of Peace and Unity – 10/1

King of Limbs is next in the market at 7/1, with the oldest tree next in the running at 8/1, the 2,000-year-old Borrowdale Yews, which is the same price as Bradgate Park’s Oldest Oak.

The Wilfred Owen Sycamore and the Argyle Street Ash are behind, both at 9/1, with the Knole Park Oak and the Tree of Peace and Unity making up the shortlist at 10/1.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Following the release of the shortlist of Tree of the Year 2025, we are branching out to make the Lonely Tree the 4/1 favourite to win the award.

“The Llanberis-based birch aptly sits alone at the top of the betting, marginally sapping favouritism from the Beatles’ Cedar Tree, which is 9/2.

“The unique looking Lollipop Tree will have its followers rooting for it, and at 11/2 it shades King of Limbs, which we have already seen business for at 7/1.”

Voting for the 2025 Tree of the Year opens on Friday, with the winner set to be revealed in September. The winning tree will represent the United Kingdom in the European tree of the year finals.
