European Athletics Championships Tips: 14th August

It’s another packed day at the 2026 European Athletics Championships. Here are our athletics betting tips for Friday, August 14th.

Men’s 200 Metres

Zharnel Hughes is looking to become only the second man to win two 200-metre European titles. Hughes won this event in 2022 and posted the fastest time in the semifinals ahead of defending champion Timothé Mumenthaler.

Hughes is miles ahead of the field in the latest rankings. He was the second-fastest European man in the 100 metres in London last month and was the only European to reach the final of the 200 metres in Eugene.

Eseosa Fostine Desalu and Mumenthaler are the only competitors with the speed to beat Hughes.

Men’s 400-Metre Hurdles

Despite finishing behind Oskar Edlund (12/1) on the semifinal timesheet, Karsten Warholm is the overwhelming favourite at 1/20 to win the 400-metre hurdles. Warholm set a meet record in London and has won this event on three occasions.

Also a three-time world champion, the gap between Warholm and everyone else is enormous. It’s hard to see how he fails to win. If he has an off day, Edlund and Emil Agyekum are the only other realistic champions.

Women’s 800 Metres

It’s a three-woman battle for gold in the 800 metres. Keely Hodgkinson has the third-shortest odds at 3/1, despite posting the quickest time in the semis. Femke Bol and Audrey Werro are the two favourites.

Werro only advanced to the final on a technicality after a late fall. She’s posted the quickest time of any European this year but sits behind Hodgkinson in the latest rankings.

We know what Bol can do over 400 metres. She’s not broken the 1 minute 55-second mark over 800 this year, though, so it’s hard to see how she beats Hodgkinson or Werro. We love the Brit’s value at 2/1.

Women’s 10,000 Metres

Already a gold medallist in the 5,000 metres and the defending champion in this event, Nadia Battocletti is 73 points ahead of any other European in the world rankings.

Maureen Koster is having a bit of a bounce back year after previously excelling over shorter distances. British hope Megan Keith should be in the battle for a podium place.

It’s really a question of whether Battocletti can maintain the form that won the 5,000 metres. She’s unbeatable if she does.

Men’s High Jump

The top 10 qualifiers all hit the 2.23 metres mark. Only two managed to do so without failing on a jump, but neither of those competitors are favoured here. Reigning world and European indoor champion Oleh Doroshchuk has that honour.

Doroshchuk beat Kimani Jack in Monaco last month. The door is ajar for Jack, with Jan Štefela – owner of the second-highest ranking – failing to qualify.

A jump of at least 2.30 might be required to win on Friday. Jack (7/2) has shown he can do that.
