ITV Racing Tips: All Eyes On Kempton, Lingfield, Newcastle and Fairyhouse
ITV will be showing their viewers nine live races this Saturday, with coverage coming from Kempton, Lingfield, Newcastle and Fairyhouse.
Our horse racing expert, Steve Mullington, takes a look at the best value bets, each-way angles and key market movers ahead of Saturday’s televised action:
1.10 Kempton – 2m5f Handicap Hurdle
BOURBALI bounced back from a frenetic ride at Sandown at the New Year, with a more polished performance at Taunton.
He was never a match for the winner there, but ran his usual solid race and can do so again today under the excellent 7lb claimer Rian Corcoran.
1.25 Lingfield – 5f Hever Sprint Stakes (Listed Race)
Karl Burke’s runners are always worth following first time up, and his LEOVANNI (NAP) can scoot home over the minimum trip at Lingfield.
The filly won the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot in 2024, so she clearly possesses speed.
1.45 Kempton – 2m Adonis Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2)
The Harry Derham-trained ONE HORSE TOWN got the better of the Dan Skelton-trained Precious Man in a Triumph Trial in November, and can repeat the feat in what is effectively a match according to our horse racing betting odds.
2.00 Lingfield – 1m2f Winter Derby Stakes (Group 3)
After a gutsy success over the course and distance in the Listed Midnite Quebec Stakes, NEBRAS can add the Winter Derby to his impressive haul.
The Dubawi-gelding is clearly talented and has one of the best jockeys in the world in the saddle.
2.25 Kempton – 2m4½f Pendil Novices’ Chase (Grade 2)
JAX JUNIOR, winner of a competitive Sandown handicap off a mark of 139 last time, can follow up off 146 in this Grade 2.
Lucy Wadham’s seven-year-old has taken to chasing well, and can account for his three rivals on Saturday.
2.43 Newcastle – 4m1½f Eider Handicap Chase
Ever since I saw Fiona Needham’s RED DELTA win at Sedgefield in October, I’ve always thought he would enjoy a long marathon test like this, and here he is.
Winner of the Lincolnshire National on Boxing Day, this race should suit him down to a tee and he’s a strong each-way play.
3.00 Kempton – 2m Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2)
Harry Derham’s promising six-year-old KLUB DE REVE was a joy to behold when winning at this venue on Boxing Day and will be a popular pick for this Grade 2 hurdle.
Odds of around 5/1 are a fair reflection of his chances.
3.15 Fairyhouse – 3m2f Bobbyjo Chase (Grade 3)
Often a significant pointer to the Aintree Grand National, I am inclined to give SPANISH HARLEM another go today after he blundered away an almost certain victory in the Thyestes Chase.
Carried out when looking all over the Scottish Grand National winner last April, this eight-year-old has surely used up all his bad luck and can return to some sort of jumping parity.
3.35 Kempton – 3m Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap)
Last weekend saw Grand Geste bounce back from a poor showing in the Great Yorkshire Chase, and DEEP CAVE, who was in the same contest, can do exactly the same.
The ground was extremely testing and deep at Doncaster a month ago, and Christian Williams’ stayer will be a different horse this weekend.
The stable have Grand National aspirations for this eight-year-old next year and think a lot about him.
