Miami Open Round Of 128 Predictions: Focus On Opening Round In Florida

| BY Sam Cox

The first round of the Miami Open begins on Wednesday. Many of the tournament’s biggest names have a bye to the second round, but there are still plenty of interesting games on the schedule.

Jennifer Brady vs Sloane Stephens

Jennifer Brady hasn’t won a match since January. After taking the first set against Antonia Ruzic, she lost the second and third to fall in the first round of the Indian Wells Open.

Sloane Stephens’ recent record is even worse. She’s not won a non-qualifying match since Wimbledon in 2024. Her last two matches saw a heavy defeat to Camila Osorio at Indian Wells and a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Anastasia Zakharova in Austin.

Brady’s confidence is going to be much higher as these players prepare for their first meeting. We think it could be another emphatic defeat for Stephens.

Pick: Jennifer Brady -4.5 games

Venus Williams vs Francesca Jones

Despite riding a four-match losing streak, the tennis betting markets still favour Francesca Jones over Venus Williams on Wednesday. Jones hasn’t won since Auckland in early January, but notably beat Emma Navarro in that tournament.

It’s eight consecutive defeats for Williams, dating back to July 2025. The 45-year-old lost in straight sets to Diana Shnaider at this event 12 months ago.

Maybe Williams can compete at the start of the match, but Jones should be able to outlast her.

Pick: Over 20.5 games

Ethan Quinn vs Hubert Hurkacz

Ethan Quinn beat Hubert Hurkacz at this year’s Australian Open. It was a straight-sets win for the young American, who followed that with a string of disappointing results, including a first-round loss to Reilly Opelka at Indian Wells.

Quinn has since won a Challenger event in Phoenix. Hurkacz has lost six matches in a row, including his loss to Quinn in Melbourne.

It’s hard to see why the 29-year-old is favoured for this match. He’s not won a set since a tiebreak against Alexander Bublik in Rotterdam.

Pick: Ethan Quinn to win

Matteo Berrettini vs Alexandre Müller

This is the first meeting between Alexandre Müller and Matteo Berrettini. The latter has had the more successful career, yet he’s only 22 places ahead of Müller in the world rankings.

Müller has only gone 2-4 to start 2026, though it’s notable he took a set off Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open. Berrettini’s 4-4 isn’t much more impressive and he’s already lost to three players outside the top 75 in the world.

Don’t be surprised if this goes to three sets. Berrettini’s reputation doesn’t mean he’s a guarantee to win this one with how he’s been playing this year.

Pick: Both players to win a set
