Billie Jean King Cup Semi-Finals Predictions: Can Anyone Stop Odds On Favourites Czechia?

At 1/4, Czechia are the overwhelming tennis betting favourites to win the Billie Jean King Cup ahead of Friday and Saturday’s semi-finals.

Boasting a stacked team, the Czechs were the only country to win their quarter-final matchup 2-0 and William Hill News preview the two semi-final encounters, with the eyes of the tennis world on China this weekend.

Spain vs Czechia Prediction

Marie Bouzková and Linda Nosková won their rubbers against Great Britain to save Czechia the risk of playing a doubles match. Karolína Muchová wasn’t even called upon in the singles rubbers, and world number one doubles player Kateřina Siniaková didn’t need to take the court.

Cristina Bucșa, Spain’s top-ranked player, lost her singles rubber to Yulia Putintseva, but that didn’t stop the Spaniards winning 2-1 against Kazakhstan. Bucșa, who has an excellent track record in doubles play, paired with regular partner Sara Sorribes Tormo to win the decisive match.

It’s clear that Czechia deserves to be favoured here. Their singles options are far superior to the Spaniards, but all it takes is one upset for Spain to stand a real chance. Sorribes Tormo and Bucșa are not to be taken lightly as a doubles pairing, and they’d stand a real chance, even with Siniaková on the other side of the net.

Ukraine vs Italy Prediction

Two-time defending champions Italy got a clutch three-set doubles win from Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini to book their place in the last four. Their reward is a contest with Ukraine, who beat Belgium despite Elina Svitolina getting surprisingly beaten in her match.

If we get the marquee matchup between Paolini and Svitolina, it feels important to note that Svitolina has a 2-1 record in the head-to-head on the WTA Tour. All three matches have gone the distance and that’s worth remembering when looking to bet on tennis this weekend.

Paolini has won 10 Billie Jean King Cup rubbers in a row, though, and the Italians got the better of Ukraine at this stage 12 months ago.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who lost her singles rubber emphatically to Zhang Shuai in the quarters, hasn’t had a good year with first-round exits at every Grand Slam and some disappointing performances at WTA 1000 events. Paolini probably needs to win her singles rubber to get this to a doubles decider.
