Roland Garros Semi-Final and Final Preview

The 2025 French Open men’s singles semi-finals are set to deliver some high-stakes drama featuring a blend of youth and seasoned veterans.
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz faces Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, while top-ranked Jannik Sinner takes on the legendary Novak Djokovic. Both matches are set to produce some fantastic tennis on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
Take a look at our original predictions for the French Open
Semi-Final 1: Lorenzo Musetti (9/2) vs. Carlos Alcaraz (1/7)
Carlos Alcaraz, the defending French Open champion, has showcased dominant form throughout the tournament, including a commanding victory over Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals. The 21-year-old Spaniard, often hailed as Rafael Nadal’s heir on clay, has a 5–1 head-to-head advantage over Musetti, with three of those wins on clay.
Lorenzo Musetti, has had an impressive clay-court season, including a runner-up finish at the Monte Carlo Masters and a semi-final run in Madrid. The 23-year-old Italian’s artistic shot-making and one-handed backhand have been instrumental in his rise to a career-high ranking of world No. 7.
Carlos Alcaraz comes into this match as the clear favourite, especially after his straight sets win over Tommy Paul in the last round. He was so dominant that he even apologised to the crowd for how short the match was. He’s currently even money (EVS) to win this semi-final 3-0, showing just how much confidence there is in him.
But it might not be that easy. Lorenzo Musetti is playing well and knows Alcaraz’s game well too. They’ve faced each other before, and that familiarity could help Musetti put up more of a fight than expected.
At 8/11 to win at least a set, Musetti is still the underdog, but he’s not being completely ruled out. If he can build some pressure or take advantage of a dip in Alcaraz’s level, he could grab a set and make things interesting. That moment, if it comes, could be key. One set could change the whole feel of the match.
This one has the potential to be closer than the odds suggest. Musetti isn’t here to make up the numbers, and Alcaraz might have to dig a bit deeper this time.
Semi-Final 2: Jannik Sinner (2/9) vs. Novak Djokovic (16/5)
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continues his remarkable run, extending his Grand Slam winning streak to 19 matches with a straight-sets victory over Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals. The 23-year-old Italian, known for his powerful baseline game and mental toughness, is seeking his first French Open final appearance.
Novak Djokovic, the 38-year-old Serbian legend, demonstrated vintage form in his quarter-final win over Alexander Zverev, marking his 101st victory at Roland Garros. Despite a challenging season, Djokovic’s experience makes him a formidable opponent. The head-to-head between Sinner and Djokovic stands at 4–4, with Sinner winning the last three encounters.
This semi-final represents a classic clash between the emerging generation and an all-time great, with both players vying for a spot in the final.
Final Outlook
Should Alcaraz and Sinner prevail, the final would feature a showdown between the top two seeds, both under 24, signalling a new era in men’s tennis. An all-Italian final between Sinner and Musetti would be historic, marking the first such occurrence in the Open Era.
Alternatively, a Djokovic-Alcaraz final would pit the seasoned champion against the rising star, offering a battle between legacy and the future.
