Iconic matches in their career

French Open 2020 – Swiatek v Halep

Despite entering the competition ranked 54th, Swiatek defeated the 2019 runner-up and 19th ranked Marketa Vondrousova in the opening round. Despite going on to win the title, the most impressive match from a ranking and spectators point of view was her stunning upset victory over Simona Halep in the fourth round.

At the time, Halep was world number two, heavy favourite to win the title and even more impressively on a 17-game winning streak. During the match Swiatek only lost three games to Halep, despite having lost all but one game when the pair faced off the previous year.

French Open 2022 – Swiatek v Gauff

Two years later, Swiatek was once again shooting for French Open glory, but this time entered the competition in the world number one spot. She cruised through to the final by bettering Daria Kasatkina, marking her 34th straight win in the process.

The real pressure turned up for Swiatek in the finals however, where not only was she facing the prospect of becoming one of only ten women to hold over two French Open titles, but also to tie Venus Williams for the most straight victories with 35 undefeated matches. Only Coco Gauff stood in her way. Swiatek ended up achieving both feats, dominating Gauff, winning 6-1 6-3 in the process.
