Madrid Open Round Of 64: Sinner Stars As Competition Cranks Up A Notch

| BY Sam Cox

With the Madrid Open entering the round of 64 stage, William Hill News analyse the best bets as several key contenders join in the action in the Spanish capital.

The Madrid Open might be missing a few big names, including Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu, but it’s still set to be an enthralling week or so on the Spanish clay.

Madrid Open Tips – Round of 64:

  • Jannik Sinner -6.5 games vs Benjamin Bonzi
  • Cam Norrie vs Tomáš Macháč – Both players to win a set (5/4)
  • Jessica Pegula -4.5 games vs Katie Boulter (4/5)
  • Leolia Jeanjean +7.5 games vs Coco Gauff (8/13)

Here are our Madrid Open betting picks for the round of 64 on Friday.

Jannik Sinner vs Benjamin Bonzi

Benjamin Bonzi has lost all three of his matches against Jannik Sinner. Bonzi has taken a set in the last two meetings, though, which is more than be said for most of Sinner’s recent opponents.

It’s not been a good start to the year for Bonzi. He lost in the qualifiers in Barcelona, Miami, and Monte Carlo.

A first-round win over fellow qualifier Titouan Droguet will give Bonzi some confidence, but this isn’t going to be close.

Cam Norrie vs Tomáš Macháč

Cam Norrie has won both of his previous matches against Tomáš Macháč. The 25-year-old Czech is ranked 41st in the world but beat Francisco Cerundolo on the Monte Carlo clay earlier this month and won in Adelaide back in January.

Since beating Alex de Minaur in Miami, Norrie hasn’t been at his best. A defeat to Rafael Jodar in Barcelona was a setback for the Brit.

Despite Norrie’s edge in the rankings, Macháč is favoured in the latest betting markets. This promises to be an entertaining duel between two players desperate for a deep run.

Jessica Pegula vs Katie Boulter

Katie Boulter made light work for Taylor Townsend in the first round to book a date with Jessica Pegula in the second round. Pegula, a contender to go all the way in Madrid, received a first-round bye.

A solid clay-court season in 2025 and a couple of wins in Rouen give Boulter some confidence coming into this one. Pegula, though, started the clay swing with a win in Charleston.

Boulter only has four wins against top-10 opponents in her career, and it’s hard to see that changing against the in-form Pegula.

Leolia Jeanjean vs Coco Gauff

Leolia Jeanjean has found some form on Madrid’s clay. Entering this tournament, Jeanjean hadn’t won since the first qualifying round for Indian Wells. Not only has she qualified for this tournament, but the Frenchwoman beat Oksana Selekhmeteva in straight sets in the first round.

After reaching the Miami Open final, Coco Gauff lost in three sets in the last eight in Stuttgart. That was likely no more than a blip as Gauff adjusts to the clay-court swing.

The way Jeanjean has started this week means Gauff needs to be wary. This should be a more competitive match than the odds suggest.
