Wimbledon Final Start Time: Date, Length Of Match & Previous Winners

Alcaraz v Sinner

The timing of the Wimbledon finals has been a hot topic in recent months. Like many sporting organisations, the All England Club are trying to maximise the number of viewers worldwide, which has led to a divisive change.

It shouldn’t have much of an impact on the tennis betting markets, though it’s important to know the scheduling when analysing the latest betting odds, particularly if there’s adverse weather around.

What Time Do The Wimbledon Finals Start?

Wimbledon singles finals will start at 4pm on the second Saturday and Sunday of the championships. Doubles finals begin at 1pm on the same days.

This controversial change (singles finals were traditionally at 2pm and followed by the doubles matches) is aiming to increase the number of viewers in North and South America.

Average Final Duration

Over the last 10 years, the average length of the men’s singles final is approximately three hours.

The longest women’s singles final was two hours and 45 minutes between Lindsay Davenport and Venus Williams in 2005. The latter won the final after a 9-7 victory in the third set.

Longest Wimbledon Final

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer played the longest Wimbledon final in 2019. Going on for four hours and 57 minutes, the top two seeds went head-to-head in an epic on Centre Court.

The match included the first ever fifth-set tie-break in a Slam final, as Djokovic ran out an eventual 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12 winner.

This took place on the same day as the 2019 Cricket World Cup final and the British Grand Prix. July 14, 2019 was a day which left sports fans not knowing where to look – it’s unlikely the UK experiences another afternoon with so much sporting drama.
