Jude Bellingham Leaps Into SPOTY Contention

| BY News Team

England’s Jude Bellingham fired himself in contention for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award last night, according to William Hill News.

Jude Bellingham was at his best once again against Mexico in England’s Round of 16 tie and the leading bookmaker reacted to his brace by slashing his odds for the prestigious award from 20/1 to 6/1, now placing him third in the market.

Three Lions captain Harry Kane scored the winning goal, and with six to his name so far in the tournament he is favourite for SPOTY at 13/8. He only trails Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe (all seven) in the race for the Golden Boot, an award he won in Russia back in 2018.

They are the clear frontrunners from the England squad, with Premier League winner Declan Rice next at 16/1 and Jordan Pickford priced at 33/1, while the main non-footballing challenge comes from Masters champion Rory McIlroy at 5/1, who could boost his chances with victory at the upcoming Open Championship.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award 2026 Odds:

Harry Kane – 13/8

Rory McIlroy – 5/1

Jude Bellingham – 6/1

Matt Weston – 7/1

Luke Littler – 12/1

Keely Hodgkinson – 12/1

BAR 16/1

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “With so many major events across the sporting calendar in 2026, the race to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year has really begun to heat up as a result of England’s’ ongoing success.

“Harry Kane’s six goals in five games have stolen the headlines and he’s our worthy favourite for the award at 13/8, but his teammate Jude Bellingham is making quite the impact as well.

“With four goals, one assist and a handful of standout performances, Bellingham’s double against Mexico saw his odds for the award continue to trend in the right direction, as we slashed him from 20/1 to 6/1 overnight.

“If he continues to be such pivotal figure then those odds will surely only shorten, while the further England go in the tournament the likelier it is that either he or Kane will land the gong over the likes of Rory McIlroy (5/1) or Matt Weston (7/1).”
