Alex Murphy: ‘Fantastic’ Faye Brookes only judged harshly due to her incredible talent

Reigning Dancing on Ice champion Alex Murphy says that Faye Brookes has only been judged harshly by the panel because they know there’s more to come from the actress.

The soap star has been a shining light on the latest Dancing on Ice series, despite judges slamming her latest Swan Lake-inspired routine as ‘too easy’ on last weekend’s show.

But Alex can understand why the judges have been hard on her, as she has already shown incredible skills and the experts will be looking to push her to another level.

“Faye is brilliant, but I understand the judges wanting to see more as she has a skating background and she can definitely achieve great things,” she said. “She is on a different level because of that. It’s a hard act to follow!

“Joe Warren-Plant and Colin Jackson, similarly with that skating background, are making themselves a hard act to follow because, alongside Faye, they are just far above the rest of the pack.”

And reigning champion Alex believes that it’ll take a special act to beat those three, as the competition begins to expose those less talented on the ice, with newcomer Matt Richardson sent home after his first week.

“Poor Matt! It’s really sad to see him go on his first week but coming in so late in the game is very unfortunate. I give him a lot of credit for competing halfway through the series,” she said.

“Congratulations to him for getting on the show in the first place and performing to the best of his abilities.”

The American skater has made no secret of her admiration of Lady Leshurr, who continues to wow viewers with her character and flamboyance.

She said: “Lady L just has so much personality, and I absolutely love watching her on the ice. For me, that is really what the show is about, and I really look forward to her performances. I would love to see her in the final.”

This week saw the show lose another two contestants after Billie Shepherd and Rufus Hound were ruled out permanently, which Alex believes has an effect on the other couples on the show.

“Unfortunately, with the circumstances of the show it feels a bit chaotic, and as performers you have to try and ignore the chaos. Having people come in and out of the show can definitely affect the entire production’s morale,” she remarked.

And heading into this weekend, Alex said she thinks Jason Donovan could be on his way out unless he manages to improve his performances.

“Jason looks like he could be at risk of going this week. Unfortunately, he’s just not as good as the others at this point,” she said.

“I do love watching his performances, but he needs to show a bit more at this stage if he wants to have any hopes of reaching the final. Hopefully his skating skills can catch up.”
