Saffie Osborne flies into BBC Sports Personality of the Year betting
History-making jockey now shorter than Jude Bellingham, Rory McIlroy and Lando Norris for prestigious sports award after first Classic win
History-making jockey Saffie Osborne has flown into William Hill’s betting for BBC Sports Personality of the Year after becoming the first female jockey to win a British Classic.
Osborne stole the headlines after powering clear aboard Highwayman to win the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster, something that had never been achieved before by a female jockey.
Now the leading bookmaker think she has an excellent chance of competing at the BBC’s prestigious Sports Personality of the Year awards, making her a 10/1 shot to land the prize.
Team GB sprinter Amy Hunt is the current 8/11 favourite to win this year’s SPOTY, with Josh Kerr next in the betting at 4/1 and Harry Kane at 9/2.
Osborne is shorter in the betting than the likes of Jude Bellingham (16/1), Rory McIlroy (40/1) and Lando Norris (40/1) as well as a host of other household names, and is looking to go two places better than the last jockey to feature in the awards, Hollie Doyle, who finished third in 2020.
