Samba struggles could spell Strictly exit for Eddie Kadi

| BY News Team

Eddie Kadi is the favourite to be the next contestant eliminated from this year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday, with research from William Hill Vegas suggesting his decision to perform the Samba this weekend could greatly contribute to his downfall.

The Brazilian routine, notorious for its complexity, has contributed to a whopping 20.6% of eliminations over the past six series inclusive, including Les Dennis from the second week of this year’s edition

According to William Hill Vegas’ data, the Jive is the second riskiest routine from the 15 available dance genres, contributing to 15.5% of eliminations since 2018 – including Nikita Kanda from the current series – with the Cha Cha Cha (12%) rounding off the top three:

With Eddie Kadi braving the Samba in this week’s episode after scoring an underwhelming 24 points alongside dance partner Karen Hauer, things are looking ominous for the comedian, who is the 13/8 favourite with William Hill to be the fourth contestant eliminated from the 2023 series.

Zara McDermott is the second favourite to depart the show this weekend at 2/1, with Adam Thomas third on the list at 9/4. Meanwhile, Bobby Brazier is now the joint-favourite to win the series, trading at 5/2 for glory alongside Nigel Harman.

We explore the three trickiest routines below.

The Samba: A Carnival of Complexity

Eliminations in the past five series: 11 (20%)

The Samba is often described as a carnival on the dancefloor, with its vibrant and energetic movements. However, this dance is also notorious for its complexity. It requires precise hip action, intricate footwork, and a strong connection between the partners. The fast-paced rhythm, coupled with quick changes in direction, leaves little room for error, and has already contributed to the downfall of Les Dennis in the 2023 series.

Eddie Kadi might find it challenging to master the unique bounce action and maintain the party-like atmosphere while executing technically demanding moves, and is 13/8 to be eliminated this weekend.

The Jive: A Test of Speed and Stamina

Eliminations in the past five series: 9 (15.5%)

The Jive is a dance that demands both speed and stamina. It’s characterised by its upbeat tempo, sharp kicks, and flicks, making it one of the riskiest routines on the Strictly dancefloor. Contestants often struggle to maintain the required energy levels throughout the performance, with Nikita Kanda a notable casualty from the current series in Week Three.

The Cha-Cha-Cha: Precision and Timing are Key

Eliminations in the last five series: 7 (12%)

The Cha-Cha-Cha is all about precision and timing. The quick syncopated steps and hip action require contestants to be in sync with their partners and the music. Any misstep or hesitation can be glaringly obvious and lead to elimination – as Lee Ryan (S16), Catherine Tyldesley (S17) and Kym Marsh (S20) all found out.

Amanda Abbington and partner Giovanni Pernice will be braving the Cuban dance this Saturday, though their odds of 50/1 to be eliminated this weekend suggests they may have what it takes to navigate its complexity.

Whichever way this weekend’s elimination pans out, we should be in for a treat…
