WWE returns to Madison Square Garden for the first time since 2007 as Saturday Night’s Main Event lands in New York with SummerSlam fast approaching.

The headline attraction sees WWE Champion CM Punk team with SummerSlam rival Cody Rhodes against Gunther and Sami Zayn, and the odds make the babyface pairing clear favourites heading into the Garden.
Punk and Rhodes have been positioned as the two biggest stars on the SmackDown brand all summer, and with their own title showdown booked for Minneapolis, WWE has little incentive to have either man pinned clean here.
Gunther remains one of the most protected competitors on the roster and rarely loses outright, so expect chaos, a miscommunication between the babyfaces, and a way for the villains to gain the upper hand without a fall changing hands. This looks a match Punk and Rhodes should see through.

Few markets on the card are as one-sided as this one. Danhausen returns to the arena where his Knicks connection captured New York’s imagination, and with The Judgment Day surrounding McDonagh at ringside, the numbers disadvantage feels set up for a heroic comeback rather than a shock upset. McDonagh is durable enough to make it competitive, but this looks Danhausen’s night.

Paige & Brie Bella have been superb champions since WrestleMania, but the odds have moved firmly behind the challengers here. Fatal Influence already have recent momentum over the champions, and with WWE keen to establish new stars in the women’s tag division, this looks like the spot where the titles change hands.
Lyra Valkyria vs Bayley – Singles Match

Our prediction: Lyra Valkyria To Win
Their mentor-mentee relationship has turned toxic, and Valkyria enters as an overwhelming favourite in the opening chapter of this feud. Bayley has the experience to make it a fight, but this reads as the first step in a longer Valkyria arc rather than a receipts-collecting night for The Role Model.

Elsewhere, World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns is set to share the ring with Knicks star Jalen Brunson in a special segment building towards his SummerSlam clash with Seth Rollins, giving Fanatics Fest weekend an extra dose of star power inside the Garden.
Whatever unfolds, Saturday Night’s Main Event looks a fitting curtain-raiser for SummerSlam, with New York’s return to the WWE spotlight promising a genuine big-fight atmosphere.
