Stars line up for £50k NSPCC Cheltenham Tipping Challenge

Nine of the biggest names in British sport have joined forces with the NSPCC and William Hill for the 2014 Tipping Challenge. Their aim is to raise over £50,000 to help fund the NSPCC's vital work by picking winners at the much-anticipated Cheltenham Festival.

Darts powerhouse Phil Taylor will go head-to-head with some of football's most famous faces including Alan Shearer, Chris Hughton, Alan Pardew, Harry Redknapp, Robbie Savage, Tony Pulis and Gordon Strachan to raise money for the NSPCC along with BBC commentator John Motson.

The challenge will run across the four days of the Cheltenham Festival (11 - 14 March) and each participant will have £1,000 per day courtesy of William Hill to bet with. On the final day (Gold Cup Day) they will bet with £2,000 instead of £1,000. Each will be provided with a selection of tips from high-profile racing experts to help them raise as much money as possible for the NSPCC and secure the coveted winner's trophy.

Over the past ten years, The Tipping Challenge has raised £550,000 for the NSPCC and previous winners have included Alan Pardew, David O'Leary and Glenn Roeder. Thanks to the generosity of bookmaker William Hill, should the sports stars fail to pick the winning horses, the NSPCC is still guaranteed to receive £50,000. But it is hoped that they will have luck on their side, placing winning bets and raising a substantial sum for the NSPCC.

NSPCC ambassador and former England captain, Alan Shearer, said: "I'm delighted to be taking part in this year's NSPCC/William Hill Tipping Challenge at the world-famous Cheltenham Festival. I hope that luck will be on my side and that I'll pick the winners to be first past the post and raise much-needed funds for the NSPCC - a charity I'm proud to support."

All funds raised from the event will help the NSPCC to protect vulnerable children and prevent abuse through its projects and services including ChildLine - the UK's free, confidential 24-hour helpline and online service for children and young people.

The table below shows the participants and will be updated daily to reveal their predictions and how they're getting on.
