Weatherbys Preview: Freddie Williams Festival Plate
Paul Jones of Weatherbys gives us his independent betting tips on all the races from this year's Cheltenham Festival.
The most bookmaker-friendly race in recent years but we hope to end that this season with Notable D’Estruval.
This is no trends horse but neither was Tiger Cry who won last season’s Grand Annual for the same Arthur Moore yard and I think you can throw trends out of the equation where this very shrewd yard are concerned.
I thought it was significant there was very good money for him ahead of a big 2m5f handicap chase at the December meeting here the day beforehand only for the meeting to be lost to the weather and he has only had one run over fences since then when an excellent fourth in the very valuable handicap chase over Christmas over 3m when fourth in that 28-runner affair as basically he doesn’t really stay 3m and this 2m5f is his trip.
Then, in typical Arthur Moore style before a crack at a big handicap chase, he prepped with a quiet run over hurdles just like Tiger Cry last season.
I think J P McManus would love to win this race named after his old sparring partner and I would be at all surprised if he is the anonymous sponsor so Fier Normand and Perce Rock also interest me.
