Most Successful Jockeys At Royal Ascot

Riding a winner at Royal Ascot is on the ‘to do list’ for every young jockey, with many of the sport’s riders viewing the Royal meeting as Flat racing’s equivalent to the Cheltenham Festival.

It is the biggest Flat meeting of the summer, with 35 races across five glorious days at the Berkshire track. Widely regarded as one of the greatest events in the sport, it is the pinnacle for all involved.

Only the privileged few can ride multiple winners at the Royal meeting and some have enjoyed more success than others. In the case of the three jockeys on this list, these riders lead the way with more Royal Ascot winners than anybody else.

A true icon leads the way at the top of the jockey charts while two living legends are next up in the rankings – so scroll on down to find out the most successful jockeys in the long-standing history of Royal Ascot.

Lester Piggott – 116 Winners

Regarded by many as the greatest Flat jockey of all-time, Lester Piggott ended his career with a total of 116 Royal Ascot winners to his name.

Piggott, known by those in the industry as “The Long Fellow”, is the only jockey to ride over 100 winners at the Royal meeting and the racecourse paid tribute by erecting a statue of him back in 2019.

He recorded 116 Royal Ascot winners in his career as a jockey, including 11 Ascot Gold Cup triumphs and seven King’s Stand Stakes victories.

The leading star of his era, Piggott passed away in 2022 but his legacy as one of the top flat jockeys to grace the saddle will undoubtedly stand the test of time.

Ryan Moore – 92 Winners

Ryan Moore has been the best Flat jockey on the planet for the best part of a decade but he doesn’t seem to get the credit that he deserves.

Stable jockey to the all-conquering Aidan O’Brien Ballydoyle yard, Moore also rides for a number of other high profile stables – including Andrew Balding, Joseph ‘Brien and Willie Mullins.

Moore is some way clear of rival jockey William Buick, who is on 48 winners following the 2025 meeting.

He had six winners at the 2023 Royal meeting and he’ll be a warm favourite in horse racing betting odds to finish as the top jockey at the 2026 meeting.

Frankie Dettori – 81 Winners

One of the iconic figures in the world of sport, Lanfranco “Frankie” Dettori was an elite jockey in British racing for over 30 years before his move to America in 2023.

A showman as well as an outstanding rider, Dettori has 81 Royal Ascot winners on his record and it’ll be interesting to see if he comes over for any rides this summer.

His flying dismount after a winner is now famous and everyone in the world of racing knows about Dettori going through the card at Ascot in 1996.

Most racing fans will be hoping to see Dettori back at the Royal meeting soon and he would surely have a decent chance of adding to his tally if he turns up.
