Premier League 2024/2025 relegation predictions
The first weekend of the Premier League campaign has passed and already at this early stage of the season, we have learnt a lot about the prospects for several of the teams this year.
The relegation battle looks set to be hotly contested again this year with all three promoted sides showing that they’re not just here to make up the numbers, even if it didn’t mean recording points in their first games. Our list looks at the likeliest candidates for the drop this season.
Bet on relegation for the 2024/25 Premier League season with William Hill
Leicester – 4/9
The Foxes are favourites in the relegation market at this point and the price isn’t indicative of the ability in their side, but a looming financial regulations breach punishment where a points deduction could prove significant in their finishing position this year.
Their season opener was a home fixture against Tottenham, where Leicester acquitted themselves well despite coming under pressure in the first half, they could’ve been walking off the pitch at half-time four goals down.
They stayed in the game and were rewarded with a Jamie Vardy equaliser; they had chances to win the tie but had to settle for a draw in the end. They will be encouraged by their start and the King Power Stadium looks like a tough place to go this season.
The potential for a points deduction is worrying, but they have a talented squad and look set to fight all the way.
Ipswich – 8/11
Ipswich are next and despite an opening-day loss to Liverpool, there are positives to take from the game. They held the Reds in the first half and did fashion some opportunities without scoring, showing they could hold their own against weaker opposition this season.
It will be a tall order to stay up this season looking at their squad but as seen in their first game, Portman Road will be no easy place to go and they have a manager in Kieran McKenna who has a great relationship with the fans, so the spirit is there.
Southampton – 5/6
Of the promoted sides, Southampton are rated the least likely for the drop at 5/6. The Saints began their campaign with a tough away game at Newcastle, losing 1-0. They were chasing the game for the majority after Newcastle had a man sent off and couldn’t quite find the net.
It looks set to be another tough season for the Saints who have made signings in Ben Brereton-Diaz and Taylor Harwood-Bellis but it’s unlikely they will pivot on their expansive playing style which proved successful in the Championship, it’s a big step up and they could come unstuck in some games if the plan doesn’t work.
Everton – 9/4
Currently propping the division up is Everton, following a 3-0 defeat to Brighton. The Toffees have been in and around the drop zone in recent years but have done enough to stay up each time, even with a total of eight points deducted last year.
Their manager Sean Dyche is well-equipped in keeping sides in the Premier League and whilst they look set to be down there once again, they seem to do enough each time to avoid the drop.
They stayed up comfortably last year despite their deductions and they will be fighting it out again this year, but a side will only get so many chances of being around relegation before getting drawn into it, this will be the concern for Everton fans.
