Which Clubs Have Won The Most Major Trophies In World Football?

| BY News Team

Football fans love the feeling of winning. Securing silverware is the primary aim for every supporter at the start of each season and that is no different, whether competing in the Premier League or several tiers down the Football League ladder.

Some teams experience a major trophy just once, others miss out completely. But for some teams, winning comes naturally and supporters are left disappointed if there is no addition to the trophy cabinet at the end of a campaign.

The cream always rises to the top when it comes to silverware and some of the world’s biggest and most prestigious football clubs feature on this list. Without further ado, we are going to take a look at the five teams with more major trophies than anyone else…

Penarol

Major trophies: 111

Penarol have never been relegated in over 130 years of competing in Uruguay’s Primera Division and the South American giants have been mainstays on the continent as well, winning five Copa Libertadores titles and three Intercontinental Cups.

With an incredible 53 league titles on their CV, Penarol are – to this day – the only club to have at least one player representing the Uruguay national team at every one of their World Cup appearances.

Rangers

Major trophies: 116

Rangers have struggled in the past couple of decades, with financial issues crippling the club and allowing Celtic to reduce the deficit in Scottish league titles. Rangers still hold the record (55) in that department but Celtic are hot on their heels with 54.

With 34 Scottish Cup successes and 28 League Cups, there is a long-standing demand for success at Ibrox and it’d be great for Scottish football if Rangers are able to go toe-to-toe again with Celtic in the near future.

Nacional

Major trophies: 117

Nacional may be trailing Penarol in terms of Uruguayan Primera Division titles but the Tricolores have a clear advantage when it comes to international trophies – collecting more silverware on the global and continental stage.

To this date, Nacional are the only Uruguayan team to win the Copa Interamericana on more than one occasion – lifting the trophy in 1971 and 1988.

Celtic

Major trophies: 120

Winning a treble is often regarded as doing the impossible, but not for Celtic. In fact, the Glasgow giants have won seven domestic trebles and 13 league and cup doubles during their illustrious history at the top of Scottish football.

A famous European Cup success in 1967 helped to put Celtic on the world map and the triumph was made all the more magnificent as every player on the pitch that night in Lisbon was born within 30 miles of Glasgow.

The Scottish champions are the team to beat each season and they are likely to pull away from Rangers’ tally. It would be a major shock if Celtic didn’t extend the lead over their old rivals before the end of 2026.

Al Ahly

Major trophies: 124

The most successful football club in terms of major honours, Al Ahly have dominated the football betting scene throughout their 117-year history. Without a doubt, they are the biggest team in Egypt – and by some distance too.

Named the CAF Club of the Century, Al Ahly are showing no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of silverware.

They have won three times as many domestic league titles as any of their rivals, while recording records for the most Egypt Cups, most CAF Champions Leagues, most African Cup Winners’ Cups and most CAF Super Cups.
