Mexico Grand Prix Preview

| BY News Team
Max Verstappen Red Bull

The Formula 1 season continues after Ferrari swept up a 1-2 finish in Texas, which has them rapidly climbing the ranks in the Constructors’ Championships.

As it stands, Max Verstappen still leads the Drivers’ Standings for this year’s season on 354 points, having finished one place above Lando Norris (297 points) in Texas, lengthening the gap to 57 points.

In the Constructors’ Standings, McLaren are in first place on 544 points ahead of Red Bull on 504, but Ferrari managed to collect 55 points last weekend which has them breathing down the necks of the top two on 496 points.

With five races left in the calendar, the Mexico Grand Prix will undoubtedly provide more drama in both title races as the competition hots up at the business end of the season.

Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez overview

The Mexican Grand Prix will prove to be yet another testing fixture in this year’s Formula 1 season due to the nature of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez track, raised 2,238m above sea level, favouring higher downforce setups to take advantage of the minimal drag on the long straights.

With regards to pitting, tyre wear shouldn’t be too much of an issue which will likely result in a one-stop race for most teams. Although one would assume overtaking is rife on such a quick circuit, that’s not the case with only 48 overtakes recorded here last season due to the thinner air at the high altitude, which makes the slipstream far less effective.

There are three DRS zones, however, so keep your eyes out for some nifty manoeuvres at the top of the grid.

Main teams to look out for

Mercedes

George Russell showed some class in Texas, managing to recover from the pits and finish a respectable sixth. His teammate Lewis Hamilton, however, will want to erase the race from his memory as his drive came to an early end when losing control and ending up in the gravel.

We’re happy to leave these two out of the contest here in Mexico despite the track historically being kind to them.

McLaren

Texas wasn’t fantastic for McLaren and Lando Norris’ hopes of catching Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship were somewhat wilted. That said, McLaren have a healthy 40-point lead in the Constructors’ Championship which is testament to the work they’ve put into their cars this season.

Norris looks a decent price at 5/2 to pick up a win here, but Verstappen’s price looks more appealing.

Ferrari

It was absolute domination in Texas by both Ferraris with Charles Leclerc picking up yet another win this season, with teammate Carlos Sainz beating Verstappen to get second. Their upgrades have really seemed to make the difference and, sitting just eight points shy of Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship, they’ll be looking to overtake them here.

That said, we fancy Charles Leclerc Race Winner, Oscar Piastri Top 6 Finish & George Russell Points Finish at 13/5 as the bet here.

Red Bull

The race pace just wasn’t there for Red Bull in Texas and Verstappen found himself in a tricky spot, not able to compete with the Ferraris and having to fend off both Piastri and Norris behind, with just over two seconds splitting the three.

Verstappen did however look to be back up and running again in many ways, so a play on him to win in Mexico at 3/1 looks a price that anyone would have snapped up at the start of the season. Red Bull have won all but one Grand Prix here since 2017, with Verstappen staking claim to all five.
