Premier League title race so far
The Premier League has never been short of drama or amazement, and so far, the first half of the 2024/25 season has been no exception.
Liverpool’s march to top spot has taken many by surprise, but perhaps the out-of-character collapse by Manchester City has caused the most shock among football fans.

There were doubts that the Liverpool hierarchy would be able to fill the void as a result of Jurgen Klopp’s departure, but those doubts have been firmly cast away. Introducing Arne Slot, the man who has convincingly guided the Reds to the top of the Premier League.
As much as it has been mostly smooth sailing for Liverpool on the pitch, key players such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are entering the final months of their contracts – an issue Slot must address in order to continue his side’s dominance. Salah especially has been very vocal in the media about his contract situation, causing some uneasiness among some fans. Slot must ensure that his key men remain at the club until at least the end of the season; notable departures in January can have a serious impact on a team’s harmony and performance.
Liverpool are odds-on at 4/6 to claim the title, and they will not want to give anything away to the chasing pack, as the Premier League is renowned for its ruthlessness. A dip in form can inject confidence into others – a consequence Manchester City have become all too familiar with as of late.
City’s crisis
Perhaps the best can’t be the best forever. One win in six for the Champions has seen them slip down the table into fourth and they may trail the league leaders by 11 points should Liverpool win their game in hand against Fulham at home.
Pep Guardiola will need to find a solution sooner rather than later if his team is to qualify for the Champions League next season, let alone re-enter the title race. Although fans have looked foolish for discounting City when they’ve fallen behind in the past, it’s becoming harder by the week to envision Guardiola steering his side to a record-breaking fifth consecutive league title – reflected by Man City’s odds of winning the Premier League drifting to 10/1.
London chasing
With City’s stumble comes opportunity. Finishing as runners-up for the second consecutive season, the Gunners are hungry for silverware. However, questions loom over whether they have the calibre to go on a storming run of form, similar to Manchester City’s 23-game unbeaten streak last season.
Meanwhile, London rivals Chelsea have quietly entered the stage and are positioned closest to Liverpool, four points behind. If they can remain consistent and avoid injuries to key players such as Cole Palmer, they could secure Champions League qualification or even have a say in the title race. Arsenal are second favourite behind Liverpool to win the league at 3/1, while Chelsea are priced at 6/1 to lift the trophy.
