Eider Chase 2025 Tips: Runner-By-Runner Betting Preview

Established in 1952, the Eider Chase takes place over 26 fences over 4 miles and half a furlong and is considered a trial for the Grand National. The gripping running in 2024 was won by Anglers Crag for Henry Brooke and Brian Ellison.
Here is your runner-by-runner guide to the 2025 renewal:
Collectors Item (Jonjo & A.J. O’Neill)
A fine second in the London National, then won the Somerset National in January. The eight-year-old thrives over these marathon trips.
O’Connell (Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith)
Has clocked up a hat-trick of victories, with the latest being a gutsy performance in the Masters Handicap at Sandown. Does a four-timer beckon?
Egbert (Alan King)
Egbert showed endless reserves of stamina to stay on strongly and win the Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock. The seven-year-old demonstrated a real liking for an extreme test.
History Of Fashion (Pat Fahy)
This veteran chaser stays longer than the mother-in-law and tends to run well after a break. It’s 57 days now since a decent showing in the Paddy Power Chase.
Anglers Crag (Brian Ellison)
Returns to defend his title and can build upon his Edinburgh National fourth at the start of the month. Rewind to 1969 for the last back-to-back winner (Highland Wedding).
Ilikedwayurthinkin (Ben Haslam)
Nice looking form figures this season, but none of them at this kind of level.
Passing Well (Jamie Snowden)
Has been knocking on the door all season and was only narrowly denied victory in the Surrey National. He looks sure to be on the premises.
Major Dundee (Alan King)
Landed the Midlands National in 2023 but his form has been very haphazard since. There’s a good race in him somewhere.
Gaboriot (Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero)
Ran a cracker in the Grand Sefton Chase and appears to be crying out for a test of stamina like this.
Your Own Story (Lucinda Russell)
Has always shaped like a stayer and only found Bretney too good for him in the Borders National in December.
Bretney (Henry Daly)
It’s impossible to say which Bretney will turn up on Saturday? Punters will be hoping it’s the exuberant front-running version.
Choosethenews (Mark Walford)
This will be a brand new trip for the eight-year old, with his only try over three miles ending on the second lap at Carlisle.
Bodhisattva (John McConnell)
The Irish raider returns to the north after a pleasing showing in the Edinburgh National three weeks ago. Jockey Alex Harvey claims a useful 5lbs and is a nice price in our sports betting.
Sporting Ace (Neil King)
Sporting Ace had to battle bravely in testing conditions to narrowly land the Surrey National following a ding-dong duel with Passing Well.
Knockanore (Ryan Potter)
This will be a journey into the unknown for the eight-year-old who tackles 3m+ for the first time.
Chemical Warfare (David Pipe)
Clocked up a string of victories in both Class 4 and 5 chases earlier in the season, but they is an altogether different level.
Lord Roco (James Ewart)
Low mileage nine-year-old who gets into this handicap off a handy weight. Potential improver if handling the Eider Chase distance.
Prince Des Fichaux (Ewan Whillans)
Beaten a neck in last year’s renewal but has shown little since. A leap of faith will be needed to back this one in the horse racing odds.
