At £120,000 the Morebattle Hurdle is Scotland’s most valuable hurdle race and includes an additional bonus of £100,000 if the winner can double up at the Cheltenham Festival.

We’re only two weeks out from finding out if Galopin Des Champs can justify Gold Cup odds and win the blue riband race for the third successive year but for now, the focus is on Kelso and the Morebattle Hurdle. You can find our runner-by-runner guide to Saturday’s big race at Kelso below…

If you are looking for tips on Newbury this weekend, check out our Greatwood Gold Cup runner-by-runner guide!

Favour And Fortune (Alan King)

Alan King’s runner is almost operating at a 50% win to run strike rate, with the only negative being that the handicapper still has him penalised right to the hilt.

Tellherthename (Jonjo & AJ O’Neill)

Connections feel they have a well-treated horse ahead of his handicap debut, and this is markedly easier than running against Sir Gino.

Alnilam (Olly Murphy)

Picked up a race at Southwell on New Year’s Day shortly after undergoing wind surgery. He’s a course and distance winner too.

Vischio (Emmet Mullins)

Vischio recouped her €52,000 price tag in the Paddy And Maureen Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle. A Listed winner on the flat, she is a key player in this Class 2 Handicap and popular in our betting.

Cracking Rhapsody (Ewan Whillans)

Course and distance scorer a couple of runs back but was well beaten by The Secret Squirrel thereafter.

Milldam (Jamie Snowden)

Won a little race off top weight at Haydock before Christmas and is clearly in great heart. The more juice there is in the ground, the better.

Aucunrisque (Chris Gordon)

An eight-time winner who regularly contests these big handicap hurdles. He’s definitely a grafter who could possibly get in the mix.

Petrol Head (Neil Mulholland)

Joined his new stable just two weeks ago after winning a couple of handicaps last summer for Katy Brown in Ireland. A totally unknown quantity for this.

Slugger (Harry Derham)

Slugger is three from three since joining Harry Derham and deserves his place in a top handicap like this. He may not have stopped improving just yet.

Gentleman Bill (Greenall & Guerriero)

Won a Go North Sea Pigeon Series Qualifier at Doncaster in mid-December and appears to be a youngster on the up.

Ginger Mail (Nick Alexander)

Nick Alexander’s course and distance winner was last seen being pulled up here two weeks ago. He needs to bounce back quickly.

Florida Dreams (Nicky Richards)

Not beaten far in the Scottish County Hurdle at the beginning of the month and Nicky Richards has saddled 4 winners from his last 14 runners.

Cormier (Brian Ellison)

Yet another course and distance winner who used to be feared in races of this nature. He needs to regain his mojo however to figure this time.

Here Comes Georgie (Patrick Neville)

Bit off more than he could chew in the Irish Arkle and returns to hurdling on Saturday. A five-time winner already, so he knows the time of day.

Wilful (Jonjo & AJ O’Neill)

A winner of 4 of his 9 starts, he was cast a total of sixth lengths adrift in his last start at Ascot. He needs to improve.

Old Gregorian (Lucinda Russell)

Russell is always good for a winner or two at Kelso, and her outsider Old Gregorian is of some interest as he’s a course and distance winner. The jockey’s claim will also help their cause.

N’Golo (Patrick Neville)

Formerly trained by Willie Mullins, then years later won the Swinton Hurdle for Ann Duffield. So far he’s failed to sparkle for the Neville team, bar for one slightly promising effort at Wetherby in November.

Rock House (Dan Skelton)

120-rated Rock House will have to run a career best off bottom weight to trouble the market leaders. The Skelton runner certainly has the scope for improvement.

Morebattle Hurdle Prediction:

  1. Vischio
  2. Tellherthename
  3. Milldam
