The 2025 Masters Tournament will be the 89th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of the men’s four major golf championships held in 2025. The tournament will be played from April 10–13 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, United States.

This week we discuss the favourites to don the green jacket come Sunday evening, and who we predict has the best chance of conquering Augusta National this year.

Scottie Scheffler 4/1

Two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler has the chance to join the exclusive list of names to have won at Augusta National three or more times in their careers. He would only be the ninth player to claim a third green jacket, putting his name amongst the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer.

Scheffler four-putted to win the Masters in 2022 with a score of 10-under par, proof of his dominance that week and still finished three shots clear of second-place Rory McIlroy.

After finishing T10 in 2023, Scheffler reclaimed his throne at Augusta National last year, firing an 11-under par to cruise to victory once again. Should he successfully defend his second title, Scheffler would have spent 100 consecutive weeks as the world number one, an achievement only Tiger Woods has accomplished – albeit Woods spent 264 and 281 weeks at the top during his decade of supremacy between 2000 and 2010.

In the three events before last year’s Masters, Scheffler won two and finished second in the third. The two events he won being the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. It’s fair to say, we saw it coming.

This time around, Scheffler has already won an event this season in the Hero Challenge and consistently finished high on the leaderboards in other events so far. It will be intriguing to see how the favourite performs in the next few weeks leading up to the Masters and whether the defending champion’s odds shorten even more. Should he successfully defend his title, he’d be one of four golfers to do so at Augusta National. But for now, we don’t see overwhelming value in a 4/1 bet, similar to his price last year of 5/1.

Rory McIlroy 8/1

The Northern Irishman is hunting a career grand slam, a feat only five other golfers in history have achieved and The Masters is the last piece of the pie needed to join that elite company.

This year is Rory McIlroy’s 17th Masters appearance and during his time he’s come agonisingly close to his first green jacket. In 2011, McIlroy led by four shots through 54 holes and still had a one-shot advantage on the 10th tee, where a horrible tee shot led to a triple-bogey and a meltdown. He shot a final-round 80 and ended up 10 strokes back of winner Charl Schwartzel in a tie for 15th place.

In his last ten years of competing, McIlroy has finished in the top 10 (including ties) seven times and missed the cut twice in 2021 and 2023. The former world number one has himself admitted he has a limited number of attempts left at obtaining a green jacket and this year could be the year he breaks the duck.

Form is a big indicator of who might perform at Augusta National, and McIlroy has been solid in recent months. Winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and finishing T4 in Dubai has put the four-time major champion in good stead and he’ll be hoping to continue his good form in the weeks leading up to the tournament.

Though questions remain over whether McIlroy will ever overcome Augusta National given his history, he’s currently the second favourite at 8/1. Often a fan-favourite, it doesn’t usually matter what price McIlroy is heading into Augusta – a large proportion of bets normally fly his way.

Ludvig Åberg 12/1

Ludvig Åberg’s rise to world number four has been a joy to watch over the last couple of years. The young Swede recently won the signature Genesis Invitational a week after withdrawing from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am due to illness. Earlier in the season, Åberg had back-to-back top 6 finishes at the Hero World Challenge and The Sentry.

Åberg impressed at Augusta National last year, finishing second on his debut. A double-bogey in his final round on the 11th hole halted the momentum he had on the front-nine, but still managed to card a round of 69, finishing four behind Scottie Scheffler.

Naturally, his odds are far more appealing than either Scheffler’s or McIlroy’s yet remain relatively short at 12/1. Out of the three top favourites, we’re eyeing up Åberg the most given his form and price.
