The Wokingham Stakes is due to take place on Saturday 21st June 2025, which is the fifth and final day of this year’s Royal Ascot meeting.

What Time Is The 2025 Wokingham Stakes?

The Wokingham Stakes will get underway at 5.00pm on Saturday 21st June 2025.

  • Group/Class: Heritage Handicap
  • Distance: Six furlongs
  • Age: Three year olds & upwards

Race History

The inaugural running of the Wokingham Stakes took place in 1813, making this race the oldest handicap at Royal Ascot.

This famous sprint is named after the market town seven miles from Ascot Racecourse, and the first dual winner was appropriately also named Wokingham (1881/1882). Over the years, the race has developed a reputation as a fiercely competitive handicap and one of the major betting heats of the season.

Wokingham Stakes Prize Money

There is a total prize fund of £175,000 for the Wokingham Stakes, with winning connections claiming £90,195 of the pot – and readers can find prize money for every Royal Ascot race here.

  • Runner Up: £42,297

Fate Of The Favourites

There have been just five winning favourites of the past 25 years, but with a field this size, it’s hardly a surprising statistic.

Nine of 25 winners returned a single-figure SP; nine were between 10/1 and 18/1, with the remaining seven 20/1 or bigger. Dandy Boy and Bachus caused the biggest shocks when the pair of them obliged at Royal Ascot odds of 33/1 in 2012 and 2018, respectively.
