Newmarket July Festival Tips Day 3 (2025)

All eyes are on Newmarket for the third and final day of the 2025 July Festival, with the July Cup taking centre stage as the feature race on Saturday afternoon.
The final day of the July Festival is all about the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup. This Group 1 Race is one of the most valuable and prestigious sprint races in the world and the winner is often acknowledged to be the best sprinter in Europe.
1.40pm – 7f EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes
John and Thady Gosden have entered DARKWING, a two-year-old daughter of Frankel and Indie Angel, which is breeding of the top order.
A homebred of Cheveley Park Stud, I expect Darkwing to know her job and to go well on her debut.
2.12pm – 7f Fillies’ Handicap
The Adrian Nicholls-trained MAW LAM is quite possibly the best filly he has had in the stable for some years, but she’s proving fairly difficult to win with.
After scoring at Thirsk on debut, she hit an instant purple patch of form, finishing second in the Hilary Needler, third in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and topped the season off with a close second in the Firth Of Clyde.
This season she’s finding it a little more difficult to hit the frame, but she certainly still has the talent and is certainly worth an each-way flutter in our horse racing odds.
2.50pm – Bunbury Cup Handicap
MORE THUNDER was just denied completing a hat-trick of victories in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot and can return to winning ways today.
The Night Of Thunder-colt is running at the top of his game, and his 98 rating looks sure to burst through the 100 mark very soon.
Carrying the well known colours of Saeed Suhail, More Thunder looks a solid bet and he’ll feature in plenty of horse racing accumulators at Newmarket this weekend.
3.25pm – Mile Handicap
Closely related to Striking Star, Moonglade and English Channel, BEDOUIN PRINCE was just touched off by the minimum margin on debut over a mile at Kempton on his sole start at as a juvenile in November 2024.
He has won both starts since, the latest by a wide margin under a penalty over 1m2f at Newmarket in May, and holds a great chance of making it a three-timer.
4.00pm – Superlative Stakes (Group 2)
ITALY (NAP) should have no problems getting pasta the others in this Group 2 affair.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge was hugely impressive when overcoming greenness to score at odds-on on debut at Leopardstown in May.
That form has been franked too, with runner-up Thesecretadversary finishing second in the Chesham at Royal Ascot.
Given the fact former O’Brien superstars City Of Troy and Gustav Klimt have won this previously, Italy looks like following in their footsteps and he will feature in many NAP tables this weekend.
4.35pm – July Cup Stakes (Group 1)
Whilst many punters and pundits will be clambering over the O’Brien and the Godolphin-owned runners in this Newmarket race, it may well pay to cast your eye across some of the less obvious candidates in our sports betting.
Grey sprinter JASOUR could well be the dark horse to follow in this sprint. He’s a course and distance scorer and Clive Cox does well with his horses in these Group sprints.
Yet to fully click this season, the new hands of Saffie Osborne may well spark a revival in his form.
5.10pm – 1m4f Handicap
Quest Thoroughbred Syndicate have had plenty of fun and success so far with ASGARD’S CAPTAIN, and they can enjoy some more in this very winnable small handicap.
In a not particularly strong field, Dylan Cunha’s five-year-old can put his eight victory CV up to the others, and dominate proceedings.
