William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell has both his star fillies, Fiery Lucy and Snellen, in action this week.

He previews both of their runs, lays out plans for Amo Racing’s Kayhana and looks ahead to a notable entry at Market Rasen this weekend.

Bet on Horse Racing at William Hill

Both star fillies in action this week

Fiery Lucy is declared at Killarney tomorrow (6.50pm) in the Listed three-year-old fillies’ race. She’s running over a mile again and I don’t think the trip will be a problem for her. The only concern is the ground as they’ve had a lot of rain there and there’s been a going change so it’s now yielding-to-soft, soft in places, which is far from ideal. Hopefully the rain stops.

She’s had three good runs this season and I think she performed better than her finishing positions show – especially in her last two. If things fall right for her on the day she’s up to winning one at this level.

We also have Snellen set to run at Leopardstown on Thursday in the Group 3 Meld Stakes (6.52pm). She’s stepping back up in trip to 1m1f, which shouldn’t be a problem for her. She’s in against the boys here which is a big ask, but there is an opportunity for her to pick up some black type here, so we’ll take our chance.

She’s been in good form since her second at Royal Ascot in the Kensington Palace. We’re happy with her heading to Leopardstown where it looks as though the ground is a bit better – the faster it is, the more that suits her.

We’re not sure yet whether she’ll go back to Bahrain over the winter and the focus with her at the moment is hopefully picking up some black type over the remainder of the season.

Glorious Goodwood on the cards for Amo Racing mare

We also had Kayhana in that Kensington Palace Stakes, but she ran a disappointing race. The ground was probably a bit too quick for her, and we probably rode her wrong as well. We were a bit too forward with her on that ground and she probably just over-raced a little bit.

She came out of the race fine and is working well. The plan for her could be to go to Glorious Goodwood at the end of the month for the 1m2f Fillies’ Handicap there on the Wednesday (3.45pm).

Hoping to fill our Plate at Market Rasen

Ballysax Hank has an entry at Market Rasen in the Summer Plate on Saturday (3.12pm) and I think he’ll more than likely travel over for that. He ran really well the last day in Bellewstown and I think he’s up to running well again in a race like this.

He’s had a couple of good runs the last twice, his mark is climbing, and it remains to be seen whether he’s open to more improvement. When the mark keeps going up it doesn’t help your cause, but at the same time it’s nice to be able to go for some of these bigger pots.
