Ryder Cup 2025 Outright Predictions & Betting Tips (2025)
A look ahead to the 2025 Ryder Cup as Team USA and Team Europe bid to lift the trophy.
Team USA are hot favourites to land the Ryder Cup on home soil at Bethpage, but should they really be trading at odds-on (4/6) in the betting? Does Team Europe actually have a serious chance of overturning them?
The logical way to work out who will be lifting the trophy, is to compare the squads man-for-man. Each player will have their pros and cons, and it will be up to me to decide whether their overall resumes rank them as a positive or a negative for their respective team.
Then it’s a simple case of adding them all up, and letting the “science” do the talking.
TEAM USA
Scottie Scheffler
- Pros: The current world number one, and still very much a player in form.
- Cons: None of note. He’s not labelled “Mr Boring” for nothing.
- Overall rating: Positive.
J.J. Spaun
- Pros: His U.S. Open win, established him as a major champion.
- Cons: Very little match play experience and has a tendency to capitulate in a tense finish.
- Overall : Negative.
Xander Schauffele
- Pros: Remarkable major championship successes in 2024.
- Cons: A rib injury contributed to a very poor season by his standards.
- Overall: Negative.
Russell Henley
- Pros: One of the most consistent golfers in the men’s game.
- Cons: Some strategic flaws kept him winless for 854 days.
- Overall: Positive.
Harris English
- Pros: Played a key role helping the U.S win back the Ryder Cup in 2020.
- Cons: Throws in some inconsistent iron play.
- Overall: Positive.
Bryson DeChambeau
- Pros: DeChambeau is a showman and may rattle a few cages.
- Cons: Being a windup may actually effect his own game.
- Overall: Positive.
Justin Thomas
- Pros: Thomas’s putting has shown a resurgence in 2025.
- Cons: Has played rounds with significant struggles this season.
- Overall: Positive.
Collin Morikawa
- Pros: Has a high golf IQ and strategic approach to any golf course.
- Cons: Described his own putting as “poor” and a major struggle this year.
- Overall: Negative.
Ben Griffin
- Pros: Won his first two PGA Tour titles in 2025 (Zurich Classic and Charles Schwab).
- Cons: Inexperienced, but definitely a confident trier.
- Overall: Positive.
Cameron Young
- Pros: Has demonstrated a knack for performing well in majors, with five top-10 finishes in 16 major starts.
- Cons: Sometimes struggles to manage his emotions on the course, and may find this occasion too much.
- Overall: Negative.
Patrick Cantlay
- Pros: Cantlay is known for his unwavering composure and mental strength.
- Cons: Widely known as the slowest player on tour, a quicker pace might flummox him.
- Overall: Positive.
Sam Burns
- Pros: Regarded as one of the most promising young players in professional golf.
- Cons: Burns’ last career win came in 2023 but that was at the WGC Match Play.
- Overall: Positive.
TEAM EUROPE
Rory McIlroy
- Pros: With a Ryder Cup record of 16-13-4 (foursomes: 7-5-1, fourballs: 5-6-2, singles: 4-2-1), Rory is the main talisman of this European team.
- Cons: Sometimes gets effected by the intense partisan crowds.
- Overall: Positive.
Robert MacIntyre
- Pros: MacIntytre has a strong mental game and is ably equipped to deal with the intense cauldron of the PGA Tour.
- Cons: Sometimes gets angered by fan heckling.
- Overall: Positive.
Tommy Fleetwood
- Pros: Finally got the PGA Tour monkey off his back when landing the Tour Championship, and will come into this as a relaxed man.
- Cons: Hard to name any really as this is not tournament play.
- Overall: Positive.
Justin Rose
- Pros: Topped a world-class field in the FedEx Cup opener in Memphis last month and has Ryder Cup experience galore.
- Cons: Probably won’t want too much golf over the three days.
- Overall: Positive.
Rasmus Hojgaard
- Pros: Secured an automatic berth in the final stretch of qualifying.
- Cons: As an identical twin, he benefits from a strong support system with his brother Nicolai, however his sibling never made the team and that could make him vulnerable out on the greens.
- Overall: Negative.
Tyrrell Hatton
- Pros: Started the year in great style with a win in Dubai and performed okay in the majors.
- Cons: Fared well at Wentworth but had a very poor time of it on the LIV Golf 2025.
- Overall: Negative.
Shane Lowry
- Pros: known for being a strong team player, having helped Europe win the Ryder Cup in 2023.
- Cons: A failure to win anything this season may just give him an element of self-doubt.
- Overall: Positive
Jon Rahm
- Pros: Crowned the LIV Golf individual champion again this year and caught the eye at Wentworth.
- Cons: May not have actually won on the LIV in 2025, but was ultra consistent.
- Overall: Positive.
Sepp Straka
- Pros: The Austrian has had a superb season on the PGA Tour, with wins at The American Express and the Trust Championship.
- Cons: He hasn’t played for four weeks because of his wife going into premature labour. All is now fine on that front however.
- Overall: Positive.
Viktor Hovland
- Pros: The Norwegian was out of form earlier this season, but won the Valspar Championship out of the blue.
- Cons: Hovland admits he is having swing issues which could undermine his game at Bethpage.
- Overall: Negative.
Ludvig Aberg
- Pros: Won the LA Open in February and then finished seventh at the Masters. He’s a pretty unflappable player in general.
- Cons: Fell away a few times in the closing stages of tournaments this year, but this is a totally different format of play.
- Overall: Positive.
Matt Fitzpatrick
- Pros: Fitzpatrick has been one of the most consistent players in the game over the past few months, regularly featuring on the final leaderboards.
- Cons: Won only one point from eight games in three Ryder Cups, so will need to turn that dreadful statistic around pretty sharpish.
- Overall: Positive.
Ryder Cup Prediction – Who Wins?
After analysing all the players from each team, it appears that the impregnable fortress that we all thought was TEAM USA, has a few gaps in its ramparts.
The momentum in the betting is with the tourists and European golf fans will be hoping to see Luke Donald’s side triumph at Bethpage this weekend.
If the ice cool Scandinavians keep focused, and the elder statesmen lead by example, then TEAM EUROPE really do hold every chance of retaining the trophy, and can be victorious on the away turf.
Suggested bet: Europe to win the Ryder Cup (11/8)
