Surge of bets for Europe to win Ryder Cup
Europe have narrowed the gap on USA in the Ryder Cup outright market, after attracting the bulk of the weekend support with leading bookmaker, William Hill.

USA remain odds-on favourites at 4/6 to defend their title at Bethpage, but a flurry of wagers has seen Europe (6/4) close in. One sizeable weekend bet means Europe would now be a 16% losing outcome for the bookmaker, with USA showing as a 14% winning result.
So far, staking has split almost evenly: USA 50%, Europe 47.5%, Tie 2.5%. However, in the To Lift the Trophy market, the money has been far more one-sided – 66% of bets have gone on the USA at 4/6, compared to 34% on Europe at 6/5.
Tournament Winner
- USA – 4/6
- Europe – 6/4
- Tie – 12/1
To Lift the Trophy
- USA – 4/6
- Europe – 6/5
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “USA may have remained odds-on across our outright markets for the Ryder Cup at 4/6, but the weekend belonged to Europe. On the match result, we’ve seen virtually a 50/50 split in stakes and a single large bet has flipped our exposure, so Europe would now be a 16% loser for us, with USA a 14% winner.
“In the To Lift the Trophy market, two-thirds of the money is for the Americans at 4/6, while Europe at 6/5 would currently be a 27% win for the book. We’ve also taken a few notable punts on the player markets, with Justin Thomas now our biggest liability for Top Combined Points and JJ Spaun for Top USA Scorer.”
