Gavin Cromwell’s William Hill blog: Listowel Harvest Festival Day Three & Four preview

William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell previews his runners across the third and fourth days of Listowel’s Harvest Festival, including his chance at going back-to-back in the Kerry National.

Tuesday, Listowel

We have two runners on the third day at Listowel, with Nibras Rainbow in the first seven-furlong handicap (2.50pm). He’s a hard one to figure out and we’re changing his headgear to a visor for this race. He may not be the most genuine, but he seems in good form at home so hopefully the visor will have a good effect and allow him to run well here.

He finished fourth in this race on soft ground in 2023 off a much higher mark, so if he can retain some of that ability then he should be in the mix.

Our other runner on the day is Earls, who also runs in the second handicap of the day over seven furlongs. He’s very effective on soft ground and seems to have come out of his win at Roscommon well, so hopefully he should have a chance.

Wednesday, Listowel

We start off in the two-mile maiden hurdle with two runners. We have The Guinness Boys making his debut and he’ll certainly benefit for the experience. We’ll learn more about him and what sort of horse he could be.

He’s got good a pedigree, but he hasn’t been the most straightforward horse to train up until now. It’ll be nice to get him started off here and if he runs a good race, we’ll be happy with that.

We also have Lecale’s Diamond in the race. I’d say he’ll probably struggle in this race, as he has done in his last two maidens. Hopefully he can run a nice enough race and we’ll look forward to going handicapping with him in the future.

Next up we have the Kerry National (4.23pm), which we won last year with Flooring Porter. Unfortunately, he remains out and is still recovering from his injury, but we do have Thecompanysergeant in there this year.

He ran a huge race in the Plate at Cheltenham but then disappointed in the Galway Plate. He’s been freshened up since and he’s in good form at home. We’re really happy with him, his work is good, and we’ve been targeting him at this, so hopefully he shows up.

Our final runner on Wednesday is Me Wee Bonnie Lass in the 2m3½f novice chase (4.58pm). She will have benefitted for the experience of her first run over fences at the end of last season, where she ran well behind a nice horse in Birdie Or Bust.

She does have a bit to find here on ratings, but she’s in good form at home and I think she has a decent place chance.
