T20 Cricket World Cup Odds: 6/1 Fancy Ahead Of Super 8s Stage
The Super Eight Stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup begins on Saturday. India are cricket betting favourites for the tournament after a dominant showing in the group stage.
Australia were the only major to fall at the first hurdle after losses to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Afghanistan, who were a dark horse for a deep run before the tournament, failed to make it out of a tricky group.
T20 World Cup Super Eight Groups
Group A
- India
- South Africa
- West Indies
- Zimbabwe
Group B
- England
- New Zealand
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
Impressive Hosts Worthy Favourites
India made light work of the first round, winning all four of their matches comfortably. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat. The spinners all took wickets at good economy rates, and Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t stretch.
Sri Lanka, too, had an impressive first phase of the competition. Matheesa Pathirana’s injury puts a ceiling on how far they can go in this tournament, though, unless they get very fortunate with spin-friendly pitches throughout.
Pathirana was the key death bowler for the Sri Lankans. They should be looking to bowl 15+ overs of spin per match in his absence.
Both India and Sri Lanka have taken full advantage of playing in their home conditions. While India have the bigger names, Sri Lanka have played at a high level throughout, including a couple of sensational knocks from Pathum Nissanka.
India rightly remain the clear favourites to win this World Cup. The pressure that comes with expectation is the biggest threat to their chances.
South African Threat
Like India, South Africa won all four of their group stage matches. They overcame a scare and some late-inning wobbles to beat Afghanistan after two super overs but delivered stellar showings in their other matches.
Lungi Ngidi was among the wickets and Keshav Maharaj displayed immense control. The batting lineup might be the most powerful on show at this World Cup with Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs delivering significant scores.
Landing in the same group as India and a sneakily dangerous West Indies team seems a little unlucky for South Africa. They would be the strongest team in Group B, particularly with Pathirana sidelined.
The Proteas are still looking for their first taste of World Cup glory. They made their first final in 2024 and reached the semis of the 50-over World Cup in 2023. This group has tournament experience and a well-rounded team capable of going all the way.
Best Of The Rest
New Zealand performed well in the group stage, particularly as they were given the unfavourable draw of facing South Africa and Afghanistan in the first round. The aforementioned West Indies posted a 100% record, with their spin bowlers showing good control and getting enough turn to take wickets.
Pakistan and Zimbabwe are a level below the other teams in the Super Eights. Both are capable of beating any of the other teams on their day, though, and could play the role of spoiler.
We should probably touch on England before wrapping this up. Harry Brook’s team were very underwhelming in the group stage, with less than convincing displays against Scotland, Nepal, and Italy.
There will be at least one match where the batting lineup fires, but England’s bowling attack doesn’t look up to World Cup-winning standard.
