PGA Championship 2026: 16/1 Former Champion Set For More Major Glory?
A look at this week’s PGA Championship, with William Hill News tipster Sam Cox analysing the latest betting and providing his best bets at Aronimink.
The 2026 PGA Championship is being played Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania. It is the first time Aronimink has hosted the PGA Championship since 1962.
As usual, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy sit atop the golf betting markets. McIlroy is looking to add his second major of the year after going back-to-back at the Masters, while Scheffler is aiming to end a three-tournament run of second-place finishes.
PGA Championship Outright Winner Odds 2026:
- Scottie Scheffler – 9/2
- Rory McIlroy – 8/1
- Cameron Young – 12/1
- Jon Rahm – 14/1
- Xander Schauffele – 16/1
- Ludvig Åberg – 16/1
- Bryson DeChambeau – 20/1
- Matt Fitzpatrick – 20/1
- Tommy Fleetwood – 22/1
- Justin Rose – 33/1
- Brooks Koepka – 33/1
The Course
Aronimink has only hosted PGA events three times since the start of 2010. There’s not a great amount of course history to go on, but it’s notable that scrambling was important 2010 and 2011 with all of the contenders impressing in that facet.
Putting, as always, is crucial, while driving distance and accuracy weren’t particularly significant when it came to predicting which players would be in contention.
PGA Championship Trends
Previous success tends to be informative at the PGA Championship, too. Twenty of the last 26 winners had already won that year.
As far as other trends go, if players have a good record on Donald Ross courses, that tends to mean they are likely to succeed on others. The Rocket Classic and Wyndham Championship are worth looking at in that regard.
Longshot Successes
The PGA Championship has a history of outsiders finding themselves in the mix on Sunday. Plenty of longshots have won outright, including Keegan Bradley in 2018 and Jimmy Walker in 2016.
There’s an element of unpredictability with this event. We don’t have much course history to go on, as it’s eight years since these guys took on Aronimink. Rain is due on Wednesday, which is bound to influence course conditions, but it might get up to 30 degrees over the weekend.
There’s a good chance we see a first-time major winner here. Of the last 42 majors, more than half have been won by first-time winners, which immediately brings Cameron Young and Ludvig Åberg to mind.
PGA Championship 2026 Best Bets
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele has only finished outside the top 12 once in the last nine majors. He wasn’t at his best at the Truist Championship after taking a couple of weeks off, but he’s seventh in scrambling this year and eighth in overall shots gained over the last three months.
Despite the success enjoyed by players without a major at the PGA Championship, experience matters. Schauffele is priced very generously considering his track record when the lights are brightest.
Russell Henley
Scrambling has been key at Aronimink. Russell Henley has been the best scrambler on the PGA Tour in 2026. Henley disappointed at the Cadillac Championship, but he tied for third at the Masters to make it three consecutive top 10 finishes in majors.
Don’t worry that Henley’s one of the shorter hitters in the field. He’s excellent around the greens and consistently ranks in the top 15 putters on the PGA Tour.
Matt Fitzpatrick
Much like Schauffele, a poor performance at the Truist Championship allows us to get longer odds on Matt Fitzpatrick. He’s won three events since finishing second at the Players Championship in mid March.
Struggles off the tee and on the greens at the Truist Championship are concerning, of course. One bad tournament does not overwrite Fitzpatrick’s brilliance in the first few months of this year, though.
Tyrrell Hatton
It’s easy to forget about Tyrrell Hatton when he’s playing in LIV Golf. Hatton never garners much attention to compared to some of his LIV peers, but he’s a perennial contender in majors, with a tie for third at Augusta and a tie for fourth in last year’s US Open.
Hatton fits the bill as a player without a major. He’s been excellent around the greens in his last three events, and grades very well in difficult scoring conditions. The Englishman is very familiar with the pressure that comes with a late Sunday tee time, which stands him in good stead if he’s in the mix again this weekend.
Matt McCarty
Matt McCarty was really struggling coming into the Masters. His putter was running hot at Augusta, setting up a tied-24th finish. It’s really kickstarted McCarty’s 2026, with a 12th at RBC Heritage followed by three consecutive top 10 finishes.
A lack of distance shouldn’t be too limiting this weekend. If he can maintain the high standards he’s shown with approach play, McCarty can be in the mix going into the final round.
- Xander Schauffele to win (16/1 each-way)
- Russell Henley to finish top 5 (9/1)
- Matt Fitzpatrick to finish top 10 (9/4)
- Tyrrell Hatton to finish top 10 (9/2)
- Matt McCarty to finish top 20 (9/2)
