ITV Racing Tips: Best Bets From Newbury and Newmarket
William Hill News preview Saturday’s racing live on ITV, with Steve Mullington listing his predictions for each televised race.
The Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury is Saturday’s ITV Racing highlight. Four other races will be broadcast live, including the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes, two Listed races and finally the London Gold Cup Handicap.
Joining Newbury on the terrestrial channel will be three handicaps from Newmarket.

1.25 NEWB – 1m4f Aston Park Stakes (Group 3)
Andrew Balding’s Group 1 star KALPANA (NAP) returns to the track this weekend and has every chance of getting off to a successful start in this Group 3 Stakes.
The mare was down the field in seventh place in the 2025 Arc in Paris, however she bounced back with some authority against her own sex on Champions Day at Ascot. She may well go off as the favourite for this contest.
1.42 NEWM – 1m Handicap
Kevin Frost’s PHONE TAG has been known to go well first time up each season, and off bottom-weight, is well worth an each-way interest in our market.
The 76-rated five-year-old probably needs a career best, but hopefully he can exploit his weight allowance.
2.00 NEWB – 1m2f Fillies’ Trial Stakes (Listed Race)
The Ralph Beckett-trained LADY ROISIA is well overpriced for this Listed race for fillies and can give punters a good each-way run for their money.
Winner of the Oh So Sharp Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at the tail end of last season, I like the profile of horses that win middle-distance races at Nottingham.
2.35 NEWB – 1m Lockinge Stakes (Group 1)
Francis Graffard-trained runners are pretty much dominating the races they have been entered for in this early part of the new French flat season, and he looks to hold a strong hand today with SAHLAN (NB).
The four-year-old finished last season on a high with victories at Deauville and Longchamp and ran a cracker at the Breeders’ Cup too. At odds of 9/1 in our sports betting market, he’s one for the each-way backers.
2.50 NEWM – 7f Handicap
The Tim Easterby-trained SON has been knocking on the door of late, and racing off a low weight today presents the yard with a gilt-edged opportunity to score.
Without a win since 2023, today can be the day for victory number two.
3.10 NEWB – 6f Listed Race
The highly tried ALBERT EINSTEIN has been given a little bit of a reprieve this weekend with Aidan O’Brien opting to drop him down to Listed level.
If the old Albert Einstein turns up, he should the number one Newbury banker of the afternoon.
3.27 NEWM – 6f Handicap
Tim Easterby’s MIRACULOUS showed us that he’s very much a horse in good fettle last week with a superb effort around Chester.
Naturally, there will be less turning and scrimmaging at Newmarket, so the coast is clear for a top-grade effort.
3.45 NEWB – 1m4f London Gold Cup Handicap
AL AZD is one of Roger Varian’s favourite horses in training, and the three-year-old’s great run of form can continue into Saturday.
The Dubawi-gelding has the very able Ray Dawson in the plate for this valuable handicap.
