BBC Sports Personality of the Year Odds: Josh Kerr races to the front of market

| BY News Team

Josh Kerr is now 3/1 favourite with William Hill News for the 2026 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, moving ahead of Jude Bellingham after his mile world-record run and continued support in the betting.

Kerr’s recent world‑record mile performance has propelled him to the head of the SPOTY market. Having initially shortened to 5/1 in the aftermath of his run, further backing over the past few days has seen him cut again to 3/1, making the Scottish middle‑distance star the new frontrunner for the prestigious end‑of‑year prize.

England’s World Cup standout Jude Bellingham is now second in the betting at 4/1, having eased slightly from 7/2. Winter Olympic double gold medallist Matt Weston follows at 5/1, while Masters champion Rory McIlroy is 6/1. England captain Harry Kane is rated a 7/1 chance, with seven‑time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton available at 12/1.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Josh Kerr’s stunning mile world record last weekend initially saw him shorten into 5/1 for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, but support has continued throughout the week and he’s now been backed into outright favouritism at 3/1.

“Jude Bellingham has gone the other way, easing slightly from 7/2 to 4/1, though he remains firmly in the mix after another outstanding year. Matt Weston continues to attract support at 5/1 following his two gold medals at the Winter Olympics in February.

“Rory McIlroy remains a major contender at 6/1 after adding another chapter to his remarkable golfing career with a second Green Jacket in the spring. Harry Kane is still well fancied at 7/1 and another strong start to the new campaign could quickly see his odds shorten once again.

Lewis Hamilton rounds out the leading contenders at 12/1 as he looks to challenge Kimi Antonelli in the F1 drivers’ standings.”
