Premier League: Newcastle v Liverpool — Reds backed in a goal‑heavy clash at St James’ Park

William Hill News tipster @Footy_Tipster previews Sunday’s Premier League clash between Newcastle and Liverpool.

Our Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Liverpool To Win (21/10), Newcastle United 2-3 Liverpool (16/1)

St James’ Park hosts one of the standout fixtures of the opening weekend in the Premier League on Sunday as Newcastle and Liverpool go head-to-head.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some Premier League odds and betting angles for Sunday’s fixture:

Newcastle v Liverpool – Sunday, 4.30pm

  • Newcastle United head into the new season facing a period of transition following the departure of Eddie Howe and several key players, including Bruno Guimarães, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
  • New boss Matthias Jaissle has a rebuild on his hands, but there’s a sense among the Toon Army that last season’s twelfth‑place finish — achieved with that core — suggests a reset might be exactly what the club needs.
  • They welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park on Sunday, though their pre‑season form offers little encouragement, with just two wins from seven friendlies. The atmosphere will be electric regardless, as both sides pay tribute to the late, great Kevin Keegan, but Newcastle supporters shouldn’t expect an easy start. The Magpies are winless in their last nineteen Premier League meetings with Liverpool (L14, D5), a run that underlines the scale of the challenge ahead. Even so, William Hill price Newcastle at 13/5 to take all three points and begin the Jaissle era with a statement victory.

  • Liverpool are one of nine Premier League clubs beginning the new campaign with a new manager, as Andoni Iraola steps into the hotseat following Arne Slot’s departure over the summer after the Reds finished fifth last season.
  • If they adapt quickly to Iraola’s high‑energy, front‑foot style, we could be in for some thrilling encounters. Just two goals in this fixture would make it only the third in Premier League history to reach the 200‑goal milestone.
  • The Reds head to the north east with a formidable record at St James’ Park, having gone nine league games unbeaten there (W6, D3). With that run behind them, William Hill make Liverpool 10/11 favourites to continue their strong form in Newcastle with a victory on Sunday.
