Open de France Predictions 2026: 28/1 Belgian Can Go Close At Le Golf National

Tommy Fleetwood is the narrow golf betting favourite for this week’s Open de France ahead of Ludvig Åberg and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Fleetwood won this event back in 2017. Michael Kim is the defending champion. You have to go back to 2016 for the last time the winner had a margin greater than two strokes – it has been a one-stroke victory in each of the last two editions.

Jeff Winther has a brilliant record here. He’s tied for second in his last two appearances and tied for eighth in 2022. The winner of the Danish Golf Championship, Winther’s approach play has been strong of late, leading to made cuts in five of his last six events, including a 15th at the BMW PGA Championship.

The Dane also leads the field in strokes gained on approach over the last three months. Don’t be surprised if he’s in contention on Sunday afternoon and he’s worth considering in betting odds for the tournament.

Missing the cut at each of his last two events means we are getting some slightly longer odds on Thomas Detry here. The Belgian has a good record at this event, with two top 10 finishes in his last four appearances. He’s not the most accurate driver, but he’s got a chance if he can regain his iron play from earlier in the year.

What about Kazuma Kobori as a longshot bet? He’s been the most accurate driver in the field over the last three months and sits in the top 10 in strokes gained on approach over that period. The New Zealander finished in the top 20 at the British Masters and the Irish Open.

The Course

Le Golf National has been tweaked due to an overhaul of the Paris Metro system, but the general challenges of the course remain the same. Seven holes have approach shots over water. Precision and patience are paramount, as the Americans found out in a Ryder Cup drubbing a few years ago.

Used at the Paris Olympics in 2024, Fleetwood picked up silver, while Åberg finished 18th. It’s a wholly unforgiving course even beyond the hazards with tricky greens and tight fairways.

Previous winners of this event have generally excelled off the tee and in their approach play. Fleetwood struggled mightily with irons in hand at Wentworth. Viktor Hovland, one of four European Ryder Cup team members in the field, has been inconsistent off the tee in recent months.

Indicators of Success

Course history tends to be pretty important when picking value bets at Le Golf National. The Phoenix Open has often drawn comparisons with Le Golf National, but we’d also consider looking at the stadium course at TPC Sawgrass where Fitzpatrick was runner-up earlier this year.

Åberg tied for fifth and Fleetwood tied for eighth, which should bode well for the three favourites this week. Kristoffer Reitan finished six over at Sawgrass and had a difficult time at the Phoenix Open.
