The Hundred
The Hundred Returns: A 2026 Guide to the Format, Teams and Odds (Women’s)
The sixth edition of The Hundred begins this week with eight teams looking to claim the trophy on the 16th August.
What is The Hundred and how does the format actually work?
The Hundred is a professional cricket competition in the United Kingdom and the only league in the world to use the 100‑ball format. Run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), it takes place each year across July and August and features eight teams, seven from England and one representing Wales.
Each team plays eight league games: four at home, four away. Everyone meets once, and then there’s a bonus fixture against their closest regional rival to add a bit of extra spice. Across the competition, that creates 32 group matches before the table decides who moves on.
The top team at the end of the league stage goes straight into the final. Second and third face off in the Eliminator, effectively a semi‑final, with the winner earning the right to challenge the league leaders for the title.
Games typically last around two and a half hours, making the format TV‑friendly and perfect for in‑play betting. The condensed structure rewards explosive batting, wicket‑taking bursts, and smart use of matchups — all of which shape the markets and create constant volatility for punters.
