The UEFA Champions League Play-Off stage is here, with sixteen teams battling it out over two legs for a place in the last sixteen.
We kick off at 5.45pm on Wednesday evening and our first game comes from the Jan Breydel Stadion in Belgium, as Club Brugge face last seasons Europa League winners Atalanta.
Later in the evening, Celtic Park will be rocking as they welcome six-time UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich to Glasgow. Elsewhere, Feyenoord and AC Milan will battle it out at the De Kuip in Rotterdam, whilst Benfica make the trip to face Monaco at the Stade Louis II.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some betting angles for Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League fixtures:
Club Brugge v Atalanta – Wednesday, 5.45pm
- Club Brugge secured their play-off place despite a 3-1 loss at Manchester City in their last UCL outing, Nicky Hayen’s side finished in the final play-off spot (24th).
- FCB head into this one off the back of a 1-0 victory on Saturday, although that’s their only win in their last six games across all competitions.
- If Club Brugge are to take an advantage over to Bergamo next week, they must do something they have failed to do since 2003, beat an Italian opposition.
——————————– - Having won four and losing just one of their eight games in the league phase, Atalanta were unlucky to miss out on an automatic qualification spot by a single point.
- La Dea had started the season strongly but just three wins in their last eleven outings has seen them drop off a little in terms of their Serie A title challenge.
- These two sides have never met before but i’m expecting goals in Brugge, given seven of Atalanta’s last eight UCL away games have produced at least three goals.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Atalanta to win, Club Brugge 1-2 Atalanta.
Celtic v Bayern Munich – Wednesday, 8pm.
- Celtic will be looking to upset the odds in this one and take something to defend in Munich next week.
- This is Celtic’s first UCL knockout game since the 2012/2013 campaign, a big night for those at Celtic Park.
- Celtic remain unbeaten on home soil in the UCL this season, having won three and drawn one of their four games, a tough place to come.
——————————– - Bayern Munich will be disappointed not to have qualified automatically into the last sixteen, their away form hampered their chances having lost three of their four games on the road during this UCL campaign.
- Since their 3-0 defeat to Feyenoord, Vincent Kompany’s side have bounced back by winning all of their last four games, whilst the Bavarians have scored twenty goals in their last seven outings.
- These two sides have met four times before in the UEFA Champions League, with Bayern Munich winning three and drawing one.
Prediction: Celtic 1-3 Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich to score three or more goals.
Feyenoord v AC Milan – Wednesday, 8pm.
- Feyenoord dropped all the way down to nineteenth in the UCL league phase following their 6-1 hammering away to Lille, that defeat was also followed up with more defeats against rivals Ajax and PSV, not ideal preparation.
- Brian Priske’s side should look back at their last UCL on home soil for inspiration ahead of this one, a 3-0 victory over European giants in Bayern Munich.
- Feyenoord’s record against Italian sides is a positive one, having not lost in their last eleven meetings on home soil.
——————————– - Had Milan not had to play the majority of their game against Dinamo Zagreb with ten men, they could have avoided this play-off fixture but a defeat meant a trip to Rotterdam for Milan.
- Milan look like a completely different team under Sergio Conceicao, having lost just two of his eleven games in charge so far.
- Within that time, eight of those eleven games have seen both teams find the back of the net, expect more of the same in this one.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score In Both Halves, Both Teams To Score & Draw.
Monaco v Benfica – Wednesday, 8pm.
- Monaco faced Benfica at the end of November on Matchday five of the UEFA Champions League and despite taking the lead twice, they lost the game 3-2 after conceding two late goals, albeit with ten men.
- That defeat in November extended Monaco’s poor record against Portuguese sides, they’ve won just one of their last eight meetings.
- After a heavy 4-1 defeat away to PSG on Friday, Monaco will be happy to be back on home soil, where they’ve won four of their last five games.
——————————– - Benfica have done under the radar a little in the UEFA Champions League so far, their unbelievable 5-4 against Barcelona was followed up with an impressive 2-0 victory away to Juventus, which secured the Eagles a play-off spot.
- Bruno Lage’s side have won all of their last three outings across all competitions, scoring eight goals in the process.
- I’m expecting these two sides to pick up where they left off in November, with plenty of goals and drama.
Prediction: Monaco 2-2 Benfica, Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 goals.
