Who will make England’s Euros squad? Latest odds

| BY News Team

The European Championships are drawing near with England’s first game set to take place on June 16th against Serbia, and manager Gareth Southgate still has a lot of decisions to make on who is going to Germany this summer.

Below we will go through the latest odds of the players to be named in the squad, whilst identifying some players who are knocking on the door.

Goalkeepers

This position seems to be the most straightforward to decide for Gareth Southgate. Jordan Pickford has been England’s number one for the best part of seven years, and there is no indication of change come this summer. Jordan Pickford is 1/33 to be named in the squad, the only way he won’t be in it would be through injury, with Aaron Ramsdale at 1/8 looking like the likely back-up. Sam Johnstone and Nick Pope are battling out for that third spot with both players joint at 4/6. Nick Pope’s price suggests that his rehabilitation since his injury has been successful and could well mean he finds himself on the plane to the Euros this summer.

Defenders

The back four who got starting spots in England’s friendly versus Brazil included the current favoured centre-backs John Stones (1/20) and Harry Maguire (1/14). The right back position against Brazil was filled by Kyle Walker who remains at 1/8 despite picking up an injury, with Trent Alexander-Arnold (1/7) and Kieran Trippier (1/4) stuck at their prices having not featured. After that comes Jarrad Branthwaite (1/2) who has been backed to make the squad having not even come off the bench. Some players’ odds have lengthened however, with Marc Guehi drifting from 1/3 to 4/7, and Lewis Dunk to make the squad also being pushed out to 11/10. He is still ahead of the likes of Levi Colwill (13/10) and Ezri Konsa (7/4) in the market and one can assume at least one of them will make the cut.

The left-back position is still massively weighing in the balance due to Luke Shaw currently being sidelined, although he is expected to be back in time, judging by his price in the market, it suggests otherwise. Shaw’s odds did sit at 2/5 but have drifted out to 6/4 to be fit for Germany, with Ben Chilwell now 4/11 having been the starting left-back against Brazil, but the Chelsea man isn’t playing his best football at the moment and he didn’t impress at Wembley. This gives Joe Gomez more of a chance as he is a very versatile, ball playing, centre back who can definitely fill a void at left-back.

Midfielders

The shoo-ins (based on odds) to make the midfield set-up include the likes of Jude Bellingham (1/25), Declan Rice (1/25) and James Maddison (1/5). Conor Gallagher appears to have impressed the fans, as the box-to-box midfielder has been backed from 8/15 to 1/6. There seems to be competition for the more defensive replacement role within the midfield between Jordan Henderson (1/3) and Manchester United newcomer Kobbie Mainoo (4/6).

Other midfielders who are short in the market with chances include Eberechi Eze (2/1), Kalvin Phillips (11/4), Curtis Jones (9/2) and Ross Barkley (8/1), all of which are not in this current England squad.

Forwards

Subject to injuries, the forwards look to certainly include Harry Kane (1/25), Bukayo Saka (1/25), Phil Foden (1/25), Ollie Watkins (1/7) and Marcus Rashford (1/3). Jack Grealish is not as strong in the market as he has been now at a price of 4/6 which could be due to Anthony Gordon impressing who has since been backed into a price of 5/4. There are some players knocking on the door, primarily Chelsea star Cole Palmer who is 4/11 to make the Euros squad, whilst Jarrod Bowen, who has also been in superb form, has remained at the short price of 6/5 to make Gareth Southgate’s final squad selection.
