Next Premier League manager to leave odds guide

The 2023/24 Premier League season may have only just started, but the futures of some top-flight managers look to already be in doubt.

We analyse the most likely managers to receive the boot next, as per the current betting market.

Paul Heckingbottom – 8/13

A perhaps unfortunate candidate to be the next manager to leave the Premier League is Sheffield United’s Paul Heckingbottom, who is arguably the victim of his own success after achieving promotion with the south Yorkshire side last season.

Despite this, the Blades have made a miserable start to the Premier League this season, losing seven of their opening eight fixtures and conceding 22 goals – including a 8-0 thumping at home to Newcastle. Only Bournemouth have also failed to win a game in the division this season, so it’s no surprise seeing Heckingbottom as the favourite to depart his position before any other manager.

Andoni Iraola – 2/1

There was a big sense of optimism around the south coast when Bournemouth brought in Spanish manager Andoni Iraola from Rayo Vallecano in the summer. However, the perfect start hasn’t quote materialised for the former Athletic Biblao right back, with Bournemouth second-bottom of the Premier League after failing to win any of the opening eight games.

Perhaps most concerning for Iraola is the fact they’re the division’s lowest scorers, finding the back of the net just five teams so far this season, despite the promise of expansive and attacking football at the Vitality Stadium. With all this in mind, Iraola finds himself as the 2/1 second favourite to lose his job next.

Erik ten Hag – 11/2

There seemed to be murmurs of a title challenge around Old Trafford at the start of the season, with Dutch manager Erik ten Hag bringing a degree of stability and success not seen at Manchester United for many years after joining last summer.

However, United’s season is quickly beginning to unravel at an alarming rate. Six losses from their opening 10 games in all competitions – including zero points from a possible six in the Champions League – has left the fans bewildered by their apparent stagnation in progress.

United were lucky that two injury-time goals from Scott McTominay won them all three points in their most recent fixture against Brentford, otherwise ten Hag’s odds of 11/2 to be the next manager to leave their post could be a lot shorter.

Vincent Kompany – 12/1

Burnley’s return to the Premier League was characterised by a new brand of football not seen before in Turf Moor, with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany overseeing a complete revamp of the Claret’s approach to the game.

However, despite some pundits predicting a mid-table finish for the Lancashire side, it’s not been the dream return to England’s top flight that many would have expected. The Clarets have lost six of their opening eight fixtures and currently occupy 18th place in the Premier League. It would however be extremely harsh to sack the Belgian this early, and despite being the fourth favourite for the chop, his odds of 12/1 suggest it’s unlikely he’ll be going anywhere soon.
