The wait is finally over, as the English Premier League returns this weekend for another campaign which is guaranteed to be full of drama over the next nine months.

Here we go then, the first Saturday of the new Premier League season is here and we’ve got some mouth-watering encounters to get us underway, make sure to check out this weekends Acca on William Hill News.

The early kick-off on Saturday comes from Villa Park, as Aston Villa take on Newcastle United at 12.30pm. Later that afternoon, Fulham make the trip down to the South Coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion, newly promoted Sunderland look to get something on the board early when they face West Ham United at the Stadium of Light, whilst Europa League holders Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley will bring an end to the 3pm action.

The Saturday night football comes from Molineux, as Wolverhampton Wanderers will look to defy the betting odds when they face a Manchester City side that will be hoping to reclaim their Premier League title come May.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some Premier League odds and Premier League betting angles for Saturday’s fixtures:

Aston Villa v Newcastle United – Saturday, 12.30pm

Punters can bet on Aston Villa v Newcastle United with William Hill

  • Aston Villa will be looking for some sort of revenge in their opening Premier League fixture on Saturday, as Newcastle United are the side that pipped the Villans to UEFA Champions League football for this season, with only goal-difference separating the two sides.
  • Unai Emery will be pleased to be at home in their curtain raiser, given they’ve not lost any of their last twenty one games played at Villa Park, their last defeat here came back in October 2024 against Crystal Palace in the League Cup.
  • History of this fixture in recent years also favours Aston Villa, they’ve managed five wins in their last six meetings with the Magpies on home soil, they’ll be keen to keep that run going on Saturday afternoon.
    ——————————–
  • Newcastle United had a successful campaign last time out, having claiming Champions League football but also ended their seventy year wait of silverware, having beaten Liverpool in the EFL Cup final back in March.
  • So you’d expect the Magpies to be excited for this campaign but that’s certainly not the case right now, with several transfer targets choosing other Premier League clubs and their star player Alexander Isak refusing to play in order to get his move to Liverpool, things are a bit sour right now.
  • Eddie Howe’s side will be looking to keep their impressive record up on the first day, having won each of their last three Premier League curtain raisers but this feels like a tougher ask this time around.

Prediction: BTTS, Ollie Watkins To Score, Over 10 Corners, Each Team Over 1 Card – #YourOdds (8/1 – *odds subject to change – prices correct at the time of writing*)

Brighton & Hove Albion v Fulham – Saturday, 3pm

Punters can bet on Brighton v Fulham with William Hill

  • After both teams spent the majority of last season battling it out together for a European spot, Brighton and Fulham will be hoping to go one further this season and actually secure one of those prestigious spots.
  • Fabian Hurzeler will be without his joint-top goalscorer from last season with Joao Pedro making the move to Chelsea in the summer, the Seagulls will also have a job in keeping Carlos Baleba if rumours of his potential exit are to be believed.
  • Notwithstanding that, Brighton should be fairly confident of getting off to a winning start on Saturday given they’re currently on a run of victories in each of their last four opening games in the Premier League, a club record.
    ——————————–
  • In terms of pre-season friendlies, it’s been fairly quiet for Fulham after playing just three games but each of those games ended in a victory for the Cottagers, facing some big opponents like Nottingham Forest, Al Ittihad and Eintracht Frankfurt.
  • Marco Silva’s side might be a little wary regarding their first game though if recent history is going to repeat itself with Fulham winning just one of their last eight curtain raisers.
  • The two meetings last season between these two sides produced both teams to score along with over 2.5 goals, i think we’ll see something very similar on the South Coast on Saturday afternoon.

Prediction: Header Scored & Goal From Outside The Penalty Area – #YourOdds (4/1 – *odds subject to change – prices correct at the time of writing*)

Sunderland v West Ham – Saturday, 3pm

Punters can bet on Sunderland v West Ham with William Hill

  • The Stadium of Light will be rocking for this one as Sunderland make their return to the Premier League after an eight year absence, the fans feel like the club is on the way up and they are back where they belong, as they welcome West Ham.
  • You feel like experience could be key for Sunderland to stay up this season and that’s why the Black Cats have turned to former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka, a big signing for Regis Le Bris.
  • You have to go back to May 2017 for Sunderland’s last victory in the English top-flight, a 2-0 win away to Hull City whilst their last Premier League victory on home soil came in December 2016, the Sunderland faithful will be hoping to end that long wait on Saturday.
    ——————————–
  • West Ham United had a really disappointing campaign last season and even a fourteenth place finish felt generous given some of the results they produced. However, the Hammers have been more positive during their pre-season friendlies, with just one defeat in their five games.
  • Graham Potter was visibly frustrated in many of his post-game press conferences last season and rightly so, his failed to have a real impact in his first nineteen games in charge, something he’ll be desperate to change this season.
  • Despite the two sides not facing each other since 2017, West Ham hold a really good record against Sunderland with just one defeat in their last ten meetings, although they’ve won just once here in their last six visits.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw At FT, Sunderland To Lead 1-0 At HT – #YourOdds (22/1 – *odds subject to change – prices correct at the time of writing*)

Tottenham v Burnley – Saturday, 3pm

Punters can bet on Tottenham v Burnley with William Hill

  • Tottenham ended last season as Europa League champions under Ange Postecoglou but that wasn’t enough to save his job, a seventeenth finish in the Premier League means it’s all change now at Spurs, with former Brentford manager Thomas Frank taking the reins.
  • Spurs thought they were on their way to another trophy on Wednesday evening in Udine, they were 2-0 up against UEFA Champions League holders PSG in the Super Cup with just six minutes left of the ninety but the Parisians clawed their way back to 2-2 and eventually won the game on penalties, much to the disappointment of those travelling Tottenham fans.
  • The Lilywhites also faced newly-promoted opposition on the first game of the season last year, a 1-1 draw against Leicester City was far from an ideal start, they’ll want to avoid any sort of upset in this one and they should do, given they’ve won their first home fixture in their last four seasons.
    ——————————–
  • Burnley find themselves back in the Premier League after gaining 100 points in the EFL Championship last season under former Tottenham player Scott Parker, they now also hold an impressive record which will be tough to beat.
  • That record comes down to their defensive displays, remarkably the Clarets conceded just sixteen goals in their forty-six games last season. It’ll be fascinating to see how they fare this season not only against better opposition but also without their star goalkeeper James Trafford, who earnt his move back to Manchester City.
  • Burnley have beaten Tottenham in just one of their last ten meetings across all competitions, whilst only three of those ten meeting seen both teams on the scoresheet, i’m expecting something similar in this one.

Prediction: Micky van de Ven At Least 1 Shot On Target (3/1 – *odds subject to change – prices correct at the time of writing*)

Wolves v Manchester City – Saturday, 5.30pm

Punters can bet on Wolves v Manchester City with William Hill

  • Although never really in doubt given how poor the three relegated teams were last season, Wolves managed to secure safety with the arrival of Vitor Pereira but the Old Gold fans will be wanting to see their side kick on now and stop flirting with relegation.
  • The signs haven’t been great though during pre-season, although those friendlies are more focussed on getting players back up to match fitness, without a win in their four outings so far is a little concerning.
  • History suggests Wolves will be in for another slow start here, since 2018 the Old Gold have won just one of their twenty league games during August, the last thing they want in their opening fixture is to face one of the ‘big boys’.
    ——————————–
  • Manchester City looked good in the UEFA Club World Cup over in the USA this summer until their surprise elimination against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, they’ve played Palermo since then and a 3-0 victory is ideal preparation for Saturday.
  • Pep Guardiola has already strengthened his side with the arrivals of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and left-backRayan Ait-Nouri, with the Algerian returning to Molineux where he’s spent the last five years.
  • The Cityzens should be confident of getting off to the perfect start in this one as they’ve won nine of their last ten meetings against Wolverhampton Wanderers, including four of the last five visits to West Midlands.

Prediction: Erling Haaland & Omar Marmoush Each At Least 1 Shot On Target In Both Halves – #YourOdds (11/1 – *odds subject to change – prices correct at the time of writing*)
