Premier League opening weekend preview: Haaland, Nunez and Jesus to make fast start

| BY News Team

After a two-month absence, the Premier League is back and with some of the world’s most promising talents migrating to British shores it looks set to be one of the most exciting seasons of recent years.

Plenty of new talent will be on show as the Premier League kicks off this weekend, with Crystal Palace v Arsenal marking the first fixture of the 2022/23 season.

Here is our preview of the top fixtures on the opening weekend.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal

The Premier League 2022/23 opens with a bang on Friday 5th of August, with two hard-fighting teams who may have expected more from last season going head-to-head in a bid to get their campaigns off to a flying start.

Arsenal have proven that they mean business in the summer transfer window by making a series of high-profile signings that will bolster their chances of competing with the best teams in the league. After impressing in pre-season, they look ready to begin the season on a high. Mikel Arteta’s side are 4/5 favourites to win the fixture and 5/2 to score over 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace have also been active in the transfer market and have largely kept hold of the players that performed well for them last season. The home side are 10/3 to win in 90 minutes even though they held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates, before winning the reverse fixture 3-0 in 2021/22.

Arsenal’s new talisman Gabriel Jesus, who has looked sharp in the pre-season since his move to the Gunners, is the favourite to score anytime in the tie at 6/5 and is 3/1 to score assisted by either Bukayo Saka or Martin Odegaard.

Fulham v Liverpool

Any chance of newly promoted Fulham being eased back into life in the Premier League went up in smoke on the release of the fixture list, with the Cottagers starting out against 2021/22 Premier League and Champions League runners up, Liverpool, who worryingly for most, look to have signed well in the transfer window.

The Reds are the 1/4 favourites here, and going on how well they played in the Community Shield against City, they could breeze past opposition they have beaten six times in their last eight meetings.

New signing Darwin Nunez, who won a penalty and netted in his competitive debut against City, is likely to start and is the second favourite to score first in the tie at 3/1 and 4/5 to score at any time.

Fulham, who are tipped for relegation, will likely struggle, but Championship single-season record scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic is dangerous and is 7/4 to score at any time.

There could be plenty of goals in this fixture, with both teams to score priced at 10/11, while each team receiving over one corner in each half is also a likely occurrence at 5/1.

West Ham v Man City

The defending champions will open their 2022/23 campaign against a side that threatened to derail their title charge late last season in a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium.

City are now reinforced by superstar Erling Haaland, who despite showing slight difficulties with his finishing against Liverpool in the Community Shield, will no doubt prove to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League over the next few seasons. The Norwegian is 21/10 to find the net first in this game, while he is just 4/7 to score at any time.

West Ham have signed Gianluca Scamacca, an Italian striker who looks ready for the Premier League, although at 3/1 he finds himself behind eight City players in the running to score at any time in the tie.

City are the 7/20 favourites and despite claims of a slow start after losing the Community Shield, will likely start their season with a win.

A 2-0 score line in favour of the Sky Blues is the most likely outcome at 6/1, with City to score in both halves a strong possibility at Evens.
