Premier League weekend preview: Chelsea clash with United in the highlight of Matchday 13

| BY News Team

With Manchester City losing to Liverpool last weekend, the title race has been turned on its head. Arsenal have the chance to extend their lead, and City must win to keep in touch with the leaders.

We preview a critical group of matchday 13 fixtures below.

Nottingham Forest v Liverpool

It is hard to say for which side this match is more important. Liverpool find themselves in eighth place, 14 points off the top of the table, and Nottingham Forest sit second bottom, having only taken six points from their opening 11 matches.

A win for either side could offer some much-needed forward momentum towards their respective goals of a top-four finish and Premier League survival so expect this to be a tough battle for both sides.

Despite showing some signs of promise and a side that is slowly gelling, Nottingham Forest are the firm underdogs at 11/1 in a tie that ordinarily they would not expect to win, but this has not been an ordinary season for Liverpool.

According to the odds, Forest are most likely to score no goals at 17/20, but it remains to be seen which Liverpool will show up on the day. Will it be the Liverpool that beat Man City or drew to Fulham and Brighton?

The Reds are the strong favourites at 2/9, and based on their performance against a visiting Manchester City at the weekend it is easy to see Jurgen Klopp’s side pulling off a rout against a side that has already conceded 23 goals this season. They are only 21/10 to score four or more goals.

Manchester City v Brighton

Another game that could make or break the period of the season for either team. For the most part, playing the football they usually do, Manchester City have looked like the full package with the addition of Erling Haaland. Still, after a disappointing loss to a Liverpool side struggling to find form, City are now a worrying four points behind the league leaders Arsenal, who, as of yet, have shown no signs of faltering.

It must be stated that City looked fragile against Liverpool, and if going for the title, considering how close the points finish was last season, that was not a game they could afford to lose. Despite the negatives, they go into the match as the 1/5 favourites to triumph over a Brighton side that seems to have withered slightly since the loss of Graham Potter. Brighton will always carry a threat and both teams to score is Evens, but at 12/1 to get the win, it’s unlikely Leandro Trossard will be able to pull another hat-trick out of the bag.

The Belgian talisman, at 6/1 to score at anytime, is Brighton’s joint best chance of a goal at the Etihad, with Danny Welbeck sharing the same odds to score at any time and to score first at 14/1. The man we have all been thinking about is 7/20 to score during the match and 7/4 to score first. His name is Erling Haaland, though I probably didn’t need to say it.

Chelsea v Manchester United

The biggest game of the weekend could prove to be one of the most entertaining if both teams play their best football.

It is the battle of the new managers as Erik ten Hag’s side, which is gradually improving under his more disciplined managerial style, take on a new look Chelsea who so far have been flourishing under Graham Potter.

Understandably, Chelsea are the favourite at 10/11, though United aren’t far behind in the betting at 14/5. In games like this, it is often said that form goes out of the window and with the quality of players on the pitch, it could easily go either way. The neutrals could be in with a real treat with the game at 4/1 to feature over 4.5 goals.

Chelsea, who look to have integrated their new signings very well under Graham Potter, are 9/5 to score in both halves and 8/13 to score the first goal, with Man Utd at 7/5 to net first and 6/1 to come from behind and win.

As mentioned, there is plenty of quality on the pitch and picking a first goal scorer will be a very tricky task. At 5/1, Cristiano Ronaldo could be a good bet though it is not 100% that Ten Hag will choose to start him. Also at 5/1, Raheem Sterling is in with a good chance with his international teammate, who scored twice last weekend, Mason Mount, at 7/1.
