Who has won the most Premier League titles?
When it comes to the current team who has won the most Premier League titles, the crown belongs with Manchester United, who have cumulatively won 20 times since 1889. Most of their titles came since the inception of the Premier League under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson, with 13 of their 20 titles having been won since 1992.
Arguably their prime season was 1998-99 where they won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles. They then went to follow on from this perfect season with two successive Premier League title victories.
Manchester United’s title winning sides were based around mixing youth and experience. Sir Alex Ferguson was never afraid of throwing players from United’s youth team into the heat of battle. At the same time, many of the older players in their sides still contributed goals and assists, with several being the Premier League’s oldest goalscorers.
When did Liverpool last win the Premier League?
United’s arch rivals Liverpool had their best spell in England’s top division in the 1970 and 1980s, but they added their first Premier League title in 30 years in 2019-20. Liverpool’s top flight title haul now stands at 19, with one victory in the Premier League era.
When did Chelsea last win the Premier League?
Chelsea had their best spell in the early 2000s under Jose Mourinho, when winning back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006. Victory in 2016-17 took Chelsea’s Premier League title wins to five.
When did Arsenal last win the Premier League?
Arsenal’s last Premier League title came in the 2003-04 season and was perhaps the most famous Premier League winning team of all-time, as they managed to go 38 games unbeaten during the season. It marked Arsenal’s 13th English top flight title and their third in the Premier League era.
Other winners
In recent season Manchester City have been the dominant side in the Premier League. In 2011-12 they won their first title, adding a second in 2013-14, before winning another four in the last five seasons.
The only other winners of the Premier League in the last 30 years have been Blackburn Rovers in the 1994-95. In 2015-16 Leicester performed a miracle by winning the title after starting the season at odds of 5000/1. It is a season that will go down in Premier League history.
